Hi Folks,

New here and just want to ask "what's going on?"

My iBurst connection has just died - don't even bother going on the Net during the day....well within my Cap...MTU settings fine....signal strength between 98 and 100%...(Randburg). Downloads between 3kb/s and 40kb/s.

Two months ago like lightning.....now only kicks in at about 1 a.m 'til about 5.30 a.m. then back to tortoise mode.

Regards to all,

robhk.

Heya :)

Getting my greet in now before you get ninja'd :)

iBurst is horrible :)

Welcome anyways and hope you enjoy the forums.

robhk, do you have any idea which tower you are connecting to? See the stickies with all the software available to determine your connected tower, that might be a good starting point. Also, signal strength is not as important as signal quality (Frame error rate should be as low as possible, even if it means bringing down your signal strength to about 70%)

Thanks for the welcome

Thanks for the welcome, people,

Landyman, I've downloaded iConnect and utTraceStar - neither sees my modem.

Seburn is very kindly helping me along with this. Until we can get some joy there I have no idea what tower I'm connected to.

Appreciate the replies.

Check bold...

I'm also struggling with uttracestar... but no joy... Can you telnet into your modem?

Often the problem with UTtracestar is simply setting your connections IP to 192.168.250.1

But if you say Seburn is helping you out then you've probably done that already.

Your problems sound like an overloaded tower, maby if you just get a directional antenna and focus on the least congested tower around you and get the bet signal possible for that tower then it would help. But such a sudden change seems strange..

Seburn has been very helpful, but to no joy.. I set the IP manually. I can ping the router, but cant telnet in. :(

Will get it sorted sometime...

Remember, being in Randburg doesn't necessarily mean being connected to the Randburg tower, hence my advice to determine that first

Router? You can't get to the modem through a router with uTraceStar (not in my experience anyway). You need to connect the Iburst modem directly into a PC's Network card that has been set to the correct IP address.

Once you are happy with the connection (or not) you can just plug the modem back into your router.

I have a router, but When I try to run uttracestar i'm using the USB or Ethernet connection. I tried both of them using the set IP, but it doesn't want to connect. I can ping the router through USB and ethernet, respectively, but cant telnet in. Only firewall on my laptop is the windows firewall. and I have tried to disable it but it doesn;t make a difference.

:(

Guys, the key is to plug the iburst modem directly into your machine. Forget about the router (for now)

I think hes past that stage, but im not sure what he means by I can ping the router.. i dont see how that helps really.

but i saw the thread and read that you have a new balck UTD, maby this could be causing the problem, they have different drivers and everything, so UTTS might just not pick them up.

Does anyone else with a new black modem get UTTs to work properly?

My bad... Not much sleep lately... What I meant to say was that I can ping the modem when connected to USB/Ethernet with the IP configured manually. But cant Telnet in.

Sorry for that... Lack of sleep i guess...

I would also like to know if anyone on the new Black modem got uttracestar to work..

Not sure if this helps but I had to download a seperate new dotnet install to get my uttracestar to work...

Stuff I tried icw .Net:
Uninstall everything -> Reinstalled .Net 1.1
Tried uTTs --> Still didn't work
Installed 1.1 updates --> Still didn't work
Installed 2.0 --> Not working...

I'm stumped... :)

Are you using the new Black modem?
