As far as I can work out it seems that Vodacom is still in the lead if it come to cheaper packages.
e.g.
Vodacom My GIG 1 1024MB with modem = R349.00. Hard capped.
iBurst New 1200MB = R369.00. Hard capped.
iBurst New 1500MB = R419.00. Hard capped.

Vodacom My GIG 2 2048MB with modem. = R449.00. Hard capped.
iBurst New 2500MB Pro Pack. = R529.00. Soft capped available to subscribers.

Still no good reason to stay with iBurst for me.

Well I'd say 200mb is worth the R20 difference, so there is no real reason to go for Vodacom wrt pricing, its just whichever one works out better for you.

And R80 for 500mb and the softcap is a better deal on iBurst's side. Its no amazing reason to chose between the two, but not much reason to want to leave either.

Of course a good reason to leave is that this is still their only product "upgrade" in two years, still practically nothing.

I've expected a better deal from iBurst seeing that Vodacom did drop their prices between 29% - 61%. Also for me Vodacom will be better with a bigger network. Althought you will not get 3G everywhere with vodacom, for me it is important to have a connection where ever I go, if it is 3G or GPRS.

I know that is exactly the problem :(

For me ADSL is the alternative, and now there isn't much more reason to stick around, doesn't look like anything else is going to happen.

I will wait and see what happens in the next year. (That's when my contract expires). If they can't come up with price reductions or a decent offer on free BW, sadly, I will also have to turn to Vodacom 3G. :(

EHV, why would you want a connection which you can't take with you? Honestly ADSL is a complete waste to me, since it's stuck in your study....

GBM, the mobility and the softcap are the only things that are keeping me with iBurst, but if stability gets much worse or if the softcap ever gets changed to hardcap thats the day my modem gets used as a paperweight.

Mine is going on the wall with a 6 inch nail in the middle with a plastic plate:

"JUST GOT SCREWED BY IBUST"

........iBurst has further introduced a 1200 MB package for R 369-00 per month and a 1500 MB package for R 419-00 per month. All these offerings are now called ‘Play’ packages where users will be hard capped when reaching their usage limit.

Fudzy. Read the link that MrH have captured.
I quote from this link:

BUT the old G1 package is now a 1500mb pro package with a softcap (called "Pro training wheels" or something)

These packages are causing confusion. What is the 1500MB package? Is it the original G1 with the 500mb extra bandwidth? Or is it a completely different setup? And with these extra bandwidth allocations, the 1500MB package will then give you 2GB?

I don't mind that so much. I obviously have a wireless router so the ADSL can be anywhere in my house, and other than that I don't usually take my iBurst out too often, but it is nice when you can. I guess I'll still know people around me on iBurst if I really needed it for mobility.

Ah, so the hard caps are coming... just a matter of time before they apply it to all packages except probably the 9 gig one

Well, they even made a point of keeping the softcaps with the new packages, I was getting worried when they removed the throttled speed bit from their website a while ago.

I hope they are not that stupid for their sake, but I don't think it will happen.

Don't bank on that not happening in the future, they were hardly likely to do it now along with the other changes since that would have been fatal for iBurst making everyone leave the promised land in a great exodus.

If they ever get rid of the soft cap, it's curtains for them - and I think they know that. Surely they won't send themselves into the devil's pit?

GBM, this is iBurst we are talking about so anything is possible, you've seen for yourself that 1) accounts dept are useless, 2) same with marketing, 3)helldesk similar, 4) tech team seem lost as to fault finding, and 5)this all starts at top management.

It would be very dumb of them to get rid of the soft cap but who knows maybe they have a death wish.
