have 4 ram slots on mobo

A 0,1
B 0,1

if i run chips in these sequence - results

A0,B0=no post
A1,B1=no post
A0,A1=no post
B0,B1 =post

running single ram chip

A0 = no post - often a 3 beep error code - and often no beeps just silence - no post
A1 = no post
B0 = post
B1 = post

i recon channel A0,A01 has got damage...i did a bios reset , bios update , swopped ram out..

only thing left to check is mobo and PSU

aaarg

2cents?

Check the mobo manual, some motherboards require you to run the RAM in specific slots, it's not always green-green or purple-purple slots or whatever.

The fact that it only posts in one of the combinations doesn't mean that the others are not working, it may just mean that's the way it's meant to work with that specific motherboard.

as far as i know if you take 1 single chip of memory it should work in all the ram slots

never heard of putting purple with green, what kinda of stupid company would put purple and green as dual channel lol

another thing dont buy intel mobo's

buy mobo's with intel chipsets made by companies such as gigabyte asus etc

intel mobo's suck

^^

my feeling also - 1 chip should work in every slot

so this is a p00 p00 mobo.

i am so lus 2 drive 100km up to rectron
aaarg.

intel mobo's suck

i've got other non-gaming purpose intel based mobo's that are running for YEARS now without issues...

intel server bords as well - no issues..

so it just dud mobo.can happen.

last time i checked the intel badaxe? mobo was also in the running as a "kickass" mobo...

mrnutz do yourself a big favour if rectron is that far

sell only gigabyte boards, tell your clients the intel boards are rubbish and your refuse to sell them, you might loose the business man but surely 100km is chomping tons of fuel

naaa man i tried a few intel boards and gave me lots of problems

i stick to companies who only use their chipsets

gigabyte boards are 10 x better than intel i think :)

Intel boards rock.. good solid quality boards, and if you're an IPP/IPI you dont have to drive anywhere for replacement stock, it will come to you..

server side its a total different story...

but ok..in terms of desktop - the gigabyte S/DSx series rocks.

it just really sucks - can't someone test these things properly before they put it in retail.

if it was a R399 mobo yeah...but in this case they can get expensive...

i'd be sure anyone would be pissed regardless intel/gigabyte <- have received a few dud bords also.

whatever - i'll go whack a rectron techie next week - tell him : MAKE it work LUKE :)

mrnutz you must check your board is in working order before leaving rectron man

they fix their mobo's and put them back in stock

i noticed alot of my gigabyte boards looked used, i heard they take the broken one's fix them and put them back :(

i never leave rectron without testing that everything is working on the mobo

Try a memtest on the mobo and (if available) interchange dimms with proven modules. Maybe do the same test with another mobo. Have the sneaking idea it could be a memory issue (noisy/poor signal), unless the memory is registered (unlikely)
