Icasa releases new termination rates

JOHANNESBURG - Icasa says termination to a mobile location for Vodacom (JSE:VOD), MTN (JSE:MTN), Telkom (JSE:TKG) will be: March 1 2011: Peak 73c, off-peak 65c; March 2012: Peak 56c off-peak 52c; March 2013: No peak and off-peak -40c respectively.

Termination to a fixed location with ON area code will be: March 2011: peak 20c, off-peak 12c; March 2012: Peak 15c off-peak 12c,; March 2013, 12c No offpeak or peak in call termination in 2013.

Terminatiion to a fixed location between ON area code March 2011: Peak 28c off-peak 19c, March 2012: Peak 25c off-peak 19c; March 2013: 19c flat rate, no peak or off-peak.

Strange, no mention of Cell C.

Seems a step in the right direction, but still too high.

Seems like CellC and Neotel fall in the smaller player bracket

Smaller market players — everyone except MTN and Vodacom in mobile markets and Telkom in fixed lines — may charge up to 20% more for calls they carry on their networks between 1 March 2011 and 28 February 2012. Thereafter, the maximum premium they may charge falls to 15%, and finally to 10% in March 2013.
