Got a mate going to HK next week and was wandering if it's worth buying one. I see they only have WiFi version currently. Wanted the 3G/4G/LTE, I see the WiFi version does not have built-in GPS.

HK has one of the cheapest prices on the iPad, but unfortunately Apple in HK is only selling Wi-Fi for now.

Just ask your friend to take a look at other stores, it's worth a try.

I would say the iPad WI-FI and get an Huawei E586/E587 hotspot much better buy than a 3G/4G/LTE one and you got a little router for your phone and other devices much cheaper idea but loss of built in GPS on the ipad.

Built in 3G can only be better than having to carry around two things!

Well, he is going to carry around a cellphone anyway, most likely, so that is an excellent excuse to get an iPhone to go with the the iPad. Use the iPhone's hotspot feature and the GPS data comes along for the ride.

Lol no gps on the wifi version is kind of obvious :/

What about warranty?

Why is that obvious? GPS does not rely on DATA from networks unless you using Google Maps. But like others have said if you're carrying a iPhone it's not a big deal I suppose. I just like the idea of having a self contained device not worrying about using my iPhone as a hotspot or find all the "FREE" wifi coverage we have in South Africa...yeah right.

As for warranty I could look at getting a Apple care thrown in which should cover it world wide. The way I see it is I'll probably save myself R2500, I'll keep it for a rainy day "if" something goes wrong.

Would LTE iPads in HK be grey then? are they not releasing LTE iPads in Hong Kong?

Your guess is as good as mine. I just find it strange that they released the Wi-Fi version only on the Apple store but no mention of the 4G version.
