New Ipad Mweb email setting

I am trying to setup, a new ipad, with a Mweb account .. and having problems.

I have set the ipad, thus :

IMAP account info :

Name xxx
email [email protected]
description mweb.co.za

Incoming mail server

Host Name pop3.mweb.co.za
User Name [email protected]
Password xxxx

Outgoing Mail server
SMTP smtp.mweb.co.za

When it tries to verify the details, I get the msg

The IMAP server, pop3.mweb.co.za is not responding.

Has anyone else set up an ipad, to receive MWEB email ?

This is for a home account, using Telkom wireless internet.

You must change your setting to POP not IMAP.

And unless you can use an authenticated SMTP with Mweb (name, password) you must use Telkom's SMTP - smtp.saix.net iirc.
 
As above,Use Pop3

And for SMTP use authentication and same details as incoming if you want to use Mweb SMTP
 
To be precise, you can use either POP or IMAP, but don't mix them up.

I use imap.mweb.co.za for incoming and relay.mweb.co.za for outgoing

What I actually did was set this up on the Mac and sync the settings across to the iPad and iPod Touch using iTunes. Works great. For some reason Mweb is not keen to have non-iOS users use the IMAP server, but it does work.
 
Thx for the replies, but, no success :

I deleted the original settings, and started from scratch.

When u click on the mail icon, it gives u the option of IMAP or POP, so I pressed POP.

I then filled in the fields, pretty much as above :

Incoming Mail server, pop3.mweb.co.za

Outgoing Mail server, smtp.mweb.co.za

When u are finished configuring, it then tries to verify .. I got the msg,

Cant connect using SSl, do you want to try without ?

So, I say yes, and then it also fails ..

Under the advanced Tab, there is a server port field, for incoming settings :

I have changed the port to 857, and this also gives an error msg.

I have added the outgoing Mail server, smtp.saix.net, with SSl off, but this doesnt help.

When u click on try to get Mail, u get the msg :

'The mail server 'pop3.mweb.co.za' is not respoinding.Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings'

Any other ideas ?
 
Tried pop, but also failed.

Will check username / password with user, but am sure the details she gave me, were correct.

The mweb link above, gives me the error msg, Server is too busy .. but will try check that out later.
 
Easiest way to test the username and password combo is using Telnet from a PC on the same network as the iPad
 
Yeah, got a mweb window open, using safari.

Logs in, fine, with the details supplied ..

Thx for all help so far. Will try the imap/relay combo, next
 
No, using IMAP doesnt work either .. gives the same SSl error msg, and fails.

Deep sigh ..
 
Cracked it .. looked at a youtube video.

Under IMAP

I tried for the incoming field .. mail.mweb.co.za said no to SSl

And that works.
