Only in the USA:

The legislators in New Jersey in the USA can't agree on a new budget.

According to the state constitution, they can't spend money if there is no budget in place.

So the state is closing down quite fast...

Civil servants don't work or get paid, the casino's where closed down because there are no govt inspectors on duty...

Meanwhile it seems as if the politicos are fighting for power.

Cape Town could have easily been in that situation, if the ID and ANC had not approved the city budget.

Like in the USA, the city would not be authorised to spend if the budget hadn't been passed, and it would have been likely that the city would have been placed under provincial authority.

We can be grateful to the ANC and ID for not being that churlish.

Interesting , I have a friend who lives in New Jersey. Works for the victim's assistance unit, I must ask him about this. Get this guys, the Americans havea special unit that helps victims of violent crimes not only access counseling, but gives them info on what sort of financial and other assistance they can get after the crime has been committed ...
