New Key for Honda CRV

So I lost my car key this weekend, but I still have the spare. Received this quote from Honda Centurion to replace just the one key:

Blank Key: R2924.74
Program the Key: R435
Cut the key: R1800
(all prices are excluding VAT)

Can this be possible ?:wtf:
 
What a complete rip off.

I ordered a extra key off of ebay for R100 :) Just need to get it cut and programmed.

I also ordered two remotes for R300 - which I can program myself.
 
Replacement keys, with transponders are less than US$20 on ebay. I'll take the risk and order a key. Getting it cut and programmed locally, I'll save about R3K.

Its what I did.... and the remote you can program yourself, theres a certain combination of events you do in your car that puts it into program mode.

e.g. In my Honda its something like Open and close the door 10x while cycling the key between the on and off position - the dash then flashes and its in program mode.
 
@mfour.So paying R6 000 for a friggin key is completely 'normal'

Thanks, that's why I'm looking at ebay (sorry, should have given you credit in my previous post).
I found the programming sequence on ehow.com.

BTW, all the keys on ebay seem to have a "panic" button that my current key don't have. Any idea what it does (trigger the alarm?), or does it simply not work, not that I really care whether it does.
 
Hmmm - I'll check mine at home... I remember seeing the key - haven't tried pushing it :p

By saying "normal", yes the price the stealers charge, but by no means "normal" as in something that is necessarily acceptable. All the tech that go into cars today come at a price, people tend to forget that.

@xrapidx Where did you get your key cut, via a Honda dealership ? and how much did it cost you ?

The last time I had it done in Jhb... this was about three years ago.. so unfortunately, can't remember where, it was around the Cresta area.

I haven't had my new one cut in Cape Town yet.
 
So, I went to the Post Office on Saturday and explained that my only post box key was attached to my car key, which I lost the week before. The lady told me to wait one minute and brings back a car key and asked me if it's mine, which it was !!!

I don't know who gave it to them, but all I can say is: Thank you, whomever you are !!!
 
Thats what the dealers ask yes. Or should I say stealers!
Try going to a shop that replicates keys, sometimes they can help you
