Would love to hear more or even a thread if you wanted on the process and progress.I went the other way and instead of plonking in a new kitchen I'm replacing the table top with granite, switched to gas hob, painting the cupboards and other small things like a modern pull-out tap, new shelves in the pantry & broom closet, wicker basket drawer vegetable storage etc.
All, self made & installed by myself and a handy friend who was caught by unemployment due to Covid.
Can't give a price yet as we're not done, but I'm buying stuff as we go along. I mean just now a few places has subway tiles on special, ideal for a modern look backslash.
It does however require extreme patience, as I have threatened on occasion to vacate and only come back once the dust has settled. Working from home under such circumstance is a challenge.
Oh do tell where please! I just used my Architectural software, Archicad. It's about a R100 000 for a license.
But you can do the same with sketchup or Blender I am sure?
That is dirt cheapRedid my kitchen about 3 years ago. 3 walls about 3m each and a small breakfast table extension about 1.5m on the non walled side.
Total cost was around R40k including new stove and oven. Alpine white cupboards with wrap doors, granite tops and tiled backsplash.
Cost breakdown
Bosch glass top stove and oven R5500
Granite R10k cash so no vat
Doors R6k
Tiling R2k including labour
Grohe mixer and plumbing R2k
Labour R7k
Wood and other fittings required R9k
I did save a lot as my uncle is a shopfitter by trade and did the job for me. He was also able to refer me to his contacts for better pricing.
Yeah he did tell me that the arms length cost on a kitchen like mine would be R80 to R90kThat is dirt cheap
He also saved me on the plumbing and tiler. Brought unemployed tradesmen from his neighborhood to do the work. They were cheapYeah he did tell me that the arms length cost on a kitchen like mine would be R80 to R90k
Next post better be the photosOh forgot. Also added 2 new plug points and he designed the kitchen completely for me as well.
Took about 5 days to complete.

I redid my kitchen for about R120k.So I am interested in a property but the kitchen of the place is completely vrot. I have drawn up a rough kitchen using the current layout, however if I were to buy it, I will do a new one to my taste.
Anyone done a kitchen recently and have an idea what this will cost me? Ignore the kitset company as I am just using it as a reference for sizes.
A rough estimate from your experience is perfectly fine, most of us are experts in all trades here.
See attach file.
This is mine.I redid my kitchen for about R120k.
So this is based in Namibia, so about 15% more expensive… but I had my kitchen remodeled very similar to this. High-End Bosch stove, oven and extractor with a marble tops.
My parents just redid their kitchen, but had it fully imported from Germany. Coats them shy of R300k.
I think anything between R80k to about R100k is your ballpark.
Hate the depth of fridges and washing machine. you would think by now they have it standarised with 500-600 deep. This is mine.

Yeah, I agree. I have a dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, and they pretty much are all the same width. The dryer has less depth. It actually looks okay (apart from one appaliance being white and the others silver.) Don’t have any pictures, as I still have boxes everywhere.Hate the depth of fridges and washing machine. you would think by now they have it standarised with 500-600 deep.
Stunning. I can just imagine that in charcoal grey. This is my parents.
Note, we had them modeled around the fridges. .
In hindsight, the tops should have been grey.Stunning. I can just imagine that in charcoal grey.
I think a darker top would have been awesome. I love German tech.In hindsight, the tops should have been grey.
But this thing is fancy. Soft close drawers everywhere. Pop open doors and cupboards. And the corner swing out pot units are quite cool.
