Hey all,

I am looking for a new laptop for my bro, but i'm not too clued up on the laptop world. Hes a student and needs to do work off it and be able to connect it to his tv for some entertainment like videos and what not.

Originally we were going for a netbook but I wasn't too sure that it would be able to play video let alone connect to a tv.

We were looking at the HP Pavilion range but I have not heard good things about them (let me know what you think)

We looking at a max of about R5k - R7k but the lower the better as long as it can do the things above.

Any suggestions?

You might want to look at an ASUS or HP. The ASUS Multimedia N-series work great. Was thinking of getting an N61JA (R9k - A bit out of your price range though). Will any gaming be done?

Hes got a 32" samsung, so would be nice to have an HDMI out but VGA should be fine.

Hmmm... Netbooks I can recommend is the HP/Comaq Mini 311 or the ASUS 1201N which have the 9400 built into them plus they both have an HDMI port on the side. Still for the ASUS K50IN as it has a lower clocked GPU(G102M) but it's a full sized laptop for about R1000 more than the netbooks I've recommended.
