New laptop for r6000

Hey can anyone help me , I am looking at buying a new laptop for Christmas.

It's for school and light gaming hopefully looking at picking up something with a gt630m or stronger

Preferred specs

Processor - i3
Hdd - 500gb
Graphics card - gt630m
Ram - 4gb

I was looking at this Mecer http://www.laptopdirect.co.za/laptop_specifications.php?laptop=59428 but it seems like Mecer doesn't have the best reputation .

Do you guys have any recommendations .

Link? because I wasn't able to find a Lenovo that had a GT630M that wasn't +7k

@OP there is also this one: Sony. Sony VAIO SVE VAIO SVE15117F

Otherwise that Mecer you linked isn't bad at all for the price considering the specs you are getting, also good to see that it comes with a 2 year warranty as opposed to the Sony with a 1 year.

If you are willing to drop your graphics requirements a little you can settle for Intel HD3000 graphics.

Um...I see that's just the IntelHD version though. I was looking at the Student laptop one at UCT which has the Nvidia gfx in.

@OP: You can get an i5, nVidia GT525M, 6GB RAM, 750GB HDD for R5.5k at Dionwired at Canal Walk.

Toshiba Satellite C850 15.6" @ R6799

If you can stump up the extra R800, the C850 is the one to go for, 720p and medium to high settings are definitely playable on that machine. The Packard Bell will do 720p and medium settings comfortably and may prove to be the better all-rounder if you decide to shove a SSD inside, but then you'd only have space for one or three games. The Mecer is in the middle of the two, but won't be the decisive winner here.

A word of advise: Be careful when looking for core i3, i5 & i7 processors. Many manufacturers still throw in the old Arrandale range of i3, i5 & i7 - and not the new range of Sandy Bridge processors.

There is nothing better than some Sandy Bridge goodness for your laptop!!

If you push to 6.5k you can get the Samsung Series 3 350v laptop from HiFi Corp.

Incredibles has a touchscreen win8 laptop for 4k. Only 2gb ram and celeron dual core but that's a pretty nice deal.
 
Makro has a 3rd generation Core i5 Fujitsu laptop with 4GB RAM and a 750GB HDD, with HDMI, Webcam Dual layer DVD writer, Card reader, Spill resistant keyboard for R5500. Well bloody worth it. It's not on their website but I saw it in their store (Ottery).

It's got the specs of this one except it's a 3rd generation Core i5.

That's a terrible idea, seriously. You can't run anything but an Arrandale chip in those boards, its not even pin-compatible with Sandy Bridge. You won't even get BIOS upgrades to support different processors and the fan and heatsink might not even be adequate for a higher-voltage chip, if OP somehow manages to summon to courage to break his warranty completely.

That's also not even Intel HD2000 graphics, that's just plain HD, a modified version of the GMA4500HD. Good for general use, but can't even launch a modern game, much less play it.
 
@mercurial: I think that's the same one I bought from Dionwired, but mine came with 6GB RAM for the same price (and the GT525M).

Its not his spec anyway, regardless of whether its cool or not. The man is looking for a specific hardware set so he can play some games when he's bored and he knows what's going to work for him. Give the customer what he wants :P

I managed to find a little bit extra budget and my budget is now 8500 :)

Any new recommendations?

R8500 sounds a whole lot better than R6k.

Toshiba Satellite L850 15.6" @ R7339 (SSD Upgrade: ADATA SP900 128GB @ R1018)
MSI GE60 15.6" @ R8548
Gigabyte Q1542N 15.6" @ R8548

Personally I'd go with the Toshiba because I can cram the SSD into the budget, but as an all-rounder the Q1542N holds incredible value. The GE60 is there more for the looks and the GT650M, but the dual-core chip might hamper some games if you play online. Either one will be more than enough for you, though. And the GE60 really does look great.
