Hi all,

This has me stumped and I'm hoping somebody can help.

I have a ADSL router and two computers (both running win2k pro SP4) all plugged into a hub. Works great.

Then I get a new laptop with win xp pro and when I plug it into the hub my adsl connection dies on all computers (except for ftp access?). Now whilst adsl is dead I can ping each computer from each computer, and ping by either IP or pc name?

Any ideas as to the reason why adsl dies would be great.

thanks
Simon

whats the ip of your laptop? do you have a DHCP server?

i'm the gingerbread man!

howdy gingerbread man,

my router ip is 192.168.10.200 and then the three pc's use 192.168.10.100/101/102

an yes I am using a DHCP server, enabled on all three machines.

Weird. DHCP Server must only be on the router, and a client on the PCs. If this doesn't work and all 3 are still dead, try assigning static IP's on the PCs, making sure that they're within the address range defined on the router. Something else - it may be related to the fact that ADSL accounts are supposed to be valid for dual connections only, or something like that... a shot in the dark, admittedly!

I've been trying a few options and the win xp pro laptop that kills the connection - even with the other pc's disconeted.

MBS, I'll try static ip's and will check my DHCP is only on router, that may be the issue albeit worked fine with the two win2k pro machines...
