New Laptop

The ASUS Gamers G51JX-X3 looks really interesting for that price, I have to agree that the website looks a bit ... erm ... dodgy though.

pleeez, maybe you don't like the colours, but nothing dodgy.
I work with them doing this and that and actually have one of these G51Jx in front of me...you welcome to come view it.
dodgy...pffft:wtf:

Nothing to do with the colors - the website looks like a student hobbled it together - but everyone can have their own opinion. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with their level of professionalism though.

Thank you for the offer - can you substantiate the reported high heat when working and how long does the battery last (just working, not playing)

dodgy...pffft:wtf:
As stated earlier, that is my opinion.

Seems active since 1997 as a store... as they say.

But really, there is no excuse for looking kark online... polish it up a bit, it is your shopfront if you are an online store. People will walk passed a computer store that looks like a KFC! Online Electronic traders should look a bit professional online... that is all.

BUT then again... you get Incredible Connection and their awful site too!!!

Wootware is a nice example of a site that works. Looks OK and importantly is very functional.

Actually, I would make my store look EXACTLY like KFC! I am sure every computer store would love the amount of walk-ins that KFC has ;)

@ juro, can't tell you if it heats or not, its in a sealed box

For the price range of R10k - R12k I would personally recommend the Asus N61JQ Intel Core i7 Quad Core Notebook. www.aureustech.co.za
It comes with a 16" Screen, 4Gb Memory and ATi Radeon Graphics. The last time we checked they were in limited supply. So you should hurry up :)

Apparently the ATI is less powerful than the nVidia, the G51JX-X3 boasts. Interesting that you can get the N61JQ for less than the G51JX-X3 in the States though. Not sure that I will need the quad core though, surely this will only make a difference if the software actually uses them, right?

Then again, it has been reported that the G51JX-X3 has some overheating/bsod issues ... anyone out there that owns one and would like to comment?

Which ATI and which nVidia would that be?

For R10k all I get is a D-sub VGA out and kark screen res. No thanks. :)

And if you look on that website, the nVidia GTS360M falls in the lower Class 1 segment, where the ATI 5730 falls in the mid Class 2 segment? Not exactly something you can claim with that nVidia is more powerful, due to comparing a lower specced card to a higher rated product? Just a thought. :)

Don't kill the messenger ...

The NVidia GTS 3xxM series does not have DirectX 11 support, where as the HD 5xxx Mobility does have.

It's a shame the GTS 4xxM series isn't available in SA, or it's just too expensive (R15k+).
