Hi guys, i have just joined up and have a question

What is the prosedure if u stay in (own) a townhouse in a complex and u want a telkom line installed? to what extent would telkom be able to help me or is it the sole responsibility of the complex owner? i dont know if there was provision made for lines to individual units within the complex and i doubt it, and now im thinking that the trustees would not alow to dig trenshes or what ever meens to get the line to the unit! has anybody done something simular?

im currently on a 4meg line from telkom but moving to the new place, and i realy realy dont want to be internetless

plz guys any help would be apresiated.

Hi there and welcome :)

I doubt that any complex that has been built in the last 10 or more years would not be hooked up.

If you are unsure, ask your new neighbours.

When I stayed in a complex - was renting - I asked the agent if it would be ok if I got a line installed and was told it would not be a problem.

Have you been walking around the place to look if there is a little panel on one of the walls where the line would come in?

Sometimes they are really well hidden :)

Thanx man! mmm i didnt think of that, interesting. but i havnt scoped out the premisis to much, been to busy with work and my fiance is handeling most of the stuff. I think i should get hold of the guy who actualy built the place or one of the pll who stays there like u sayd! i dearly hope they made provision for this. the panel u are refering to is that on the outside of the complex or on the unit ietself?

No the panel would be inside your house. Though there should be one on the outside as well.
Usually a little cream panel with two screws, on the top and bottom if I'm not mistaken.

How long ago was the complex built?
A rough idea of where it is would help as well.
Also, I could not fathom that the plans for the place would not make provision for a telephone line

il try and make a turn there today and check for it. I stay in middelburg mp, if thats what u ment by rough idea! to give u an idea of how new the place is- i just bought the last unit, so id say its pritty new! if it doesnt have one im screwd hey?!?

Hehe - then you could always hope that Neotel has got you covered :p

Nah - really you should be sorted, if you're wanting to post more info about where you're staying, I'm sure that there would be forumites in the area whom could also validate that your area is indeed covered by Telscum.

But at the end of the day, I'm quite certain that you should be ok.

shot for all the help man! the area itself is covered as i have already asked telkom, its just the complex provision thing im uncertain of, il check today and post back here!!

Good luck - would be sad to go from a 4meg line to GPRS :p :D

/leaves office and goes home to sleep...finally

i came from 3g, so its even more sad as i know where i come from and how Cr@p it is.. he he

the place i rent in a complex had the sockets in the wall already, asked the person from whom i rent and got it installed (although it had the socket, thats all that there was left)

thats the other thing even if it has the "boxes" where the sockets go, wheres the cable? does telkom neet to install a cable from somewhere to the house into that "box"

Checked before buying

When I bought in my Complex, I checked with Telkom, and they said their werel ines in the complex. It seems that Telkoms systems are complex aware.

I would go to a "telkom" shop in one of the bigger shopping malls (try a sus out who seems the most helpful person behind the counter first and target them) and ask them to check your complex on their system. I had my adsl line running in five days from application.

Telkom seem to be getting their systems and customer service slowly sorted.

If it's a new complex you may be lucky or unlucky. The complex we've just finished has been waiting for lines for 6 months already. Call PD Connect, each complex has a project manager from Telkom assigned to it, they'll tell you immediately if the lines are installed or not. If they are, its just a few days to get a line, if not the project manager may be able to tell you when they'll be installed.

well acording to the sales agent the lady behind me has an internet connection, so i take it that the lines are installed, il phone telkom in the wk to start moving my internet connection to the new place

i have been waiting nearly two months now and go in like every week to get the same response "we'll get back to you" but nobody ever does i hate telkom !

Anyone know of a person at Telkom that is prepared to take an "financial" gift to speed up line/adsl installations? :) I really don't want to wait until Feb/March next year.
