New-look Super15 in 2011

I agree with every post you made Pitbull, The CC is sacred.

I for one will/going to be very upset if this is for definite.

No jokes, but a Sharks (i mean Natal) CC victory means more to me than a S14 victory, due to the history of the Currie Cup.

It will be very sad if the CC loses its well earned Status.

+1

And it has the same effect for the players. As said previously, my cousin played for the Blue Bulls. But died in an Horrific accident. His biggest dream was to play for the Springboks, even the u/21 WC They won under Jake White had nothing on the Currie Cup final he played in 2003. (He only played about 10 minutes. He's second wish was to play starter for a Currie Cup final which would have happened in 2004 (Unfortunately he never saw the 2004 season :()

This is why the Currie Cup is such a brilliant series. I will never forget the day Heineke Meyer made this anouncement:

This is but one story of many many players who carried the Currie Cup in the second highest regard in the World of Rugby, I can name a few more ;)

Yes.

Which is just as sad. As noted above the Super 12 was perfect. They are slowly eating away at the Currie Cup. Unless we make a stand it will not be there in a few years.

how many weeks of the currie cup were current S14 players playing?

Currie Cup is normally mid July to the end of October, so all the S14 players could play the entire Currie cup, it is The current Tri nations that eats into the CC and takes away some of the players at the start.

None of them.

The picture is like this. With every week the Super14/15 is extended, that exact number of weeks are carried over to the other line-ups. So for every week the Super14/15 is extended every Tri-nations game is extended and so the test season all of this over laps the Currie Cup which start and of July beginning August.

Now they decide to break for the test seaon which is June/Jully. Then they RESUME the Super 14/15. Which means ?

You beat me to it.

Now with the Super14/15 being resumed after the test window will mean that most of the first round of the Currie Cup will be played with not even one Star player as the Full first choice team will be featured in the Super series.

That is not good, and I hate it !

The 2011 Currie Cup premier division will be cut from eight to six teams to accommodate the new Super15 and Tri-Nations.

The only way for SA Rugby to ensure that the Super15 and Currie Cup don’t clash in future is for the latter tournament to be shortened.

Now how the fk do you justify that ?

Pls can someone explain to me how you cut out 2 franchises from your Local series to accomodate 1 Foreighn team in the Super 15 series ?

Pls for the love of Rugby someone pls explain that to me .....

ah ok. the current system meant only the boks basically never played in the cc. except for semis and the final if they home franchise was playing?

Our top rugby players are playing way too much rugby. Surely now the Super15 players will have to exclude themselves from playing CC? So it would Super15 followed by Tri-nations and end of year tour and that's all...

The CC would replace the Vodacom cup and the majority of players competing in the Vodacom cup formats and teams would represent their provinces in the CC...

Can't see how else this can work...

At the very least the Springbok contracted players would have to be unavailable for the CC season...

The only way i can see this happening:

Only the top provincial teams will play in the CC, bulls, sharks, cheetahs, WP, lions and maybe griqaws.

each team will play each other once, with 2 semi's and a final, thus the CC will take 7-8 weeks to complete.

If it turns out to be like this, then it is a F up

Yes.

With the Super 10 and Super 12, the full squads featured in the Currie Cup as the time it took up was a little of the season break for the players.

With the introduction of the Super 14 They had to start cutting into the other rugby series as the players could not give up more off season time. Now with the Super 15 it's just the cherry on top. These players play their hearts out weekend after weekend, they are in the gym and on the field practising 5 days a week. And what does the boards do?

Fk them, we'll just make them play more.

Now since they can't do that no more, they cut the local series to have the Super series which only says "**** you SA rugby supporters, we want your money. Bend over and take it"

SARFU is to blame for this no one else.

But surely this will have a similar impact on the NPC and Ozzie equivalent too?

I don't think it's all together a bad thing for contracted Springboks to sit out the CC to be honest. Sure it's watering down the CC not having them play but the benefit will be more new players coming through which are falling through the cracks created by a weak club structure...

I think you are right, the Vodacom Cup will be the Currie Cup.:(

Not afaik. There was an article about it, their season is different from ours. That is why they need the Super15 to run when it's running.

I'll have to find their schedule though.
