So I finally got my new 15" macbook pro just over a month ago - seems I should have waited a while. Ignoring the price drop we are now seeing (sob), is there anything else besides the 7 hour battery life in the new versions I'm missing out on?

Bragging rights of saying you have the latest model?

Wish I had a macbook pro :(

Yes there is:
The new ones have a SDCard slot
Yep: bragging rights

thats about it i think. BTW I prefer the Express slot

I think the 15" is keeping the same screen. Only the 13" was updated if I understand the WWDC announcement correctly. The battery is improved as you mentioned. SD slot was added but express slot was removed. The SATA is reduced from 300 to 150 MB/s but some believe its just a firmware issue that can be fixed. Slight processor bump to 2.8ghz. But not much has changed. I will be getting the 2.8ghz one next month but honestly its basically the same machine with a better battery. Don't regret your decision.

No the 15" screen has also been updated with a wider colour gamut, it is comparable to the excellent Dell XPS 16" now.

You've got a better model. The ExpressCard is a must for anyone working in pro-HD video on Sony cams - Sony PMW-EX1 and EX3 (best sub-$20,000 Full HD progressive cameras). The SD card slot is worthless as USB adapters are available for that, but USB to ExpressCard adapters don't work for SxS cards. Apple just handed many XDCAM EX users over to SONY Vaio.

Awesome. Thanks for all the info guys. The screen on this macbook is already pretty amazing, so it seems like it's the battery that I've mainly lost out on. (HAving said that. three and a half to four hours is still pretty good for a battery.)

It was mentioned some time during the announcement. So not sure about that.
