New Macbook problems?

Speaking of overheating, does the Macbook Pro have temp sensors to monitor the temps?

I am running the istat nano widget, but get not temp readings, but I am not sure if you even get readings on the Macbook Pro

I suppose it should have, pop off a mail to Apple support and ask them how to monitor the temp's.

I'm sure the temps will be be resolved soon - in fact I wouldn't buy any mac products until after the Apple Expo commences on the 12th.

I wonder how hard Apple gets hit by the Osborne Effect?

Yep, Macrumour.com even has "dont buy" sticker's on some Apple products seeing as new versions are expected on the 12th.
Ipod/Mini Mac/MacPro(sorry Landy) book being some of them.

Apple Expo

There is not going to be a apple keynote at the Apple expo, so nobody is expecting a big product release there.

That said, apparently apple has sent out an invitation to a media event sometime during the second half of September. I can't track down the reference, but I think its the 19th?

[edit\: I just saw that Apple will be having a media event in San Francisco (simulcast to London) on the 12th coinciding with the start of Apple Expo Paris]

Lots of people seem to think that the macbooks/pros/mini's are going to be upgraded to core2duo, and the "new" video ipod (again) is due for release for the holiday season.

Last year the G5 and iMac revisions also came out sep/oct.

In dont know what Macrumours thinks but I'm betting on a video Airport express especially with claims that apple is adding movies to iTMS.

Regardless of a keynote in France Apple has apparently sent out invitations for a media event on the the 12th. In fact everyone is expecting big releases.

EDIT - ok guess you were busy editing as I was typing. :D

Video airport tech would be pretty funky, but I'm not sure that I would get one... I tried a wireless signal extender and it had really crappy range and clarity.

I'm going with the imac revisions (23" core2duo) and a new range of aluminium nano's (ala ipod mini). Personally I thought the ipod mini was pretty tacky.

His Steveness got pissed at IBM!

Sounds like they couldn't shoe-horn a G5 into a 1" high powerbook case without releasing the 15" Macintosh PowerIron with matching asbestos shorts.

Not that the intel chips aren't pretty good at taking the creases out of your pants!;)

who said anything about amd

why didnt they stick with their other cpu?
Main reason is IBM couldnt deliver the chips they said they could.

If they release something like that its probably going to have been tested extensively - Jobs doesnt strike me as the sort to release things that arent ready. I regularly stream video to the laptop attached to my tv with few problems so it should work especially if they give the wifi a speed bump.

Yep, using streaming on wifi routers works fine, but if there is a lot of interference it can become a nightmare. Not too much of a problem in the burbs, but can be an issue in a complex with wifi routers all over the place.

BTW - istatnano can't use the temp sensor on the MBP either. I found a little app that runs at system level that wil give you a dock icon and widget with the temperature, but it wasn't too stable. I ditched it after going to SMC 1.2f10 cuz it made a big differnce to the temp that the MBP runs at. I use it on my lap a lot.
