Hi guys .... i cant wait till the newmacbooks reach our shores but 1 little question! how good is the new nvidia 9400 graphics cards in the MB? can it play for instance call of duty 4 ? ow and is there a way for macs to run both mac and xp? thx!

Hmm I pretty sure it can do a lot more that COD4, but I am not certain. To run both operating systems, it would be advisable to either try boot camp i think its called, or to use FUSION (which is VM ware). I am pretty keen on getting one of these macs aswell. Personally I would prefer FUSION if I was trying the dual Operating Systems.

For gaming you'll want to run bootcamp but you can also share that installation with Parallels or VMWare which lets you run windows virtually. Its not as good as running windows natively via bootcamp but its more than good enough for most things and it means your not required to restart your machine every time you need to acccess a windows application.

Apple's Keynote & website shows that COD4 plays 5x faster/better compared to older graphics chip.

The new macbooks are awesome, but sadly the prices are now shocking.

Head over to www.digicape.co.za for the shocking news.

Around R15000 ... eish i don't like to be negative, but it think macs are now to expensive for us saffas. The rands fall has killed us.

Considering the direct exchange from $ to R comes to around R16000. Bearing in mind our stock comes from England (Pound "pounds" us even more than the dollar) the pricing isn't thaaaaat bad. Hopefully the exchange rate will make the new Macbook's expensive rather than unaffordable.

According to www.laptopmag.com the new Macbook is able to play COD4 in native res (1280X800) at around 20-40 FPS which is playable but ultimately not nice. Drop that down to 800X600 and you should have a highly playable game.

Bear in mind that the USD has strengthened against the GBP too (I cannot understand why though, given their financial situation), so the new MacBooks are more expensive then the old lot in the UK too. The entry level is just under ÂŁ1000, while the old one was closer to ÂŁ700

The UK is in a far worse financial shape than the US. What's happening to the Royal Bank of Scotland? and many other banks?

It shares system RAM as g-fx ram. Don't expect to play 3D games on
this laptop in any quality. However Macbook users can now use Final Cut Studio 2 - because GeForce supports FxPlug.

Really? It looks pretty similar to me.

Anyway, my comment was about the dollar strengthening substantially.

US economy is many times those of the UK. In fact the UK is a financial powerhouse because its between EMEA and the US.

"Big" and "strong" are not necessarily linked. The banks my be having a lot of trouble, but average middle class Brits aren't losing their houses and trying to get rid of their cars the way that the Americans are.

I have family in the US and I work for an American company. From everything I've seen, we're still far better off on this side of the pond.

A big economy can sustain a crisis far better than a small one, especially
one dependent on the big one. The Fed also has far greater financial reserves than the BOE. AFAIK its the UK which is officially in financial recession and not the US - so far. As you said its an American co you work
for, if they go bust or pull out of the UK you're without a job.

I have friends in the US and they're not touched by the problems there either.

The irony is that it's the UK part of this particular company which is profitable at the moment. Profitable enough, in fact, to cover the losses on the US side...
