New mail and i lost everything ?!

My macbook asked me to do a restart this morning and when it rebooted my mail was gone. Came up with a window that says mail has a lot of new feautures etc and when it opened my mail only my .ME account was there. Luckily i ran a imap server so everything was still there. Anybody else having a similar problem ?

seen it loads of times, with both entourage and mac mail. if it was not an imap there is still a way to recover it, most likely ur plist file got damaged, delete it and u will see mac mail come up saying whats new???

if u navigate to ~library/mail u would most likely still see ur mailboxes there.

And no - never had that problem.

EDIT - I keep my mail (amongst things) on a 4gb secure disk image so at least if anything goes wrong I always have a fairly recent copy (since the last time I mounted the drive) as well as whatever time machine and superduper have backed up.

check that you did'nt move any folders within your user account. this happens easily.

As i said i run a imap server so it is okay and time machine saved my ass a couple of times as well...

I have seen mail start a couple of times without any content. Usually closing mail at this time and restarting it would solve the problem
