So I picked up my new Mazda 2 dynamic a few days ago. I'm really enjoying the vechile but there is one issue the doors do not auto lock at 20km/h or even when the ignition is switched on. I would have expected this to be standard.

Anyone that has Mazda 2 managed to to get the dealership to enable this feature? Or did you have to use 3rd party hardware to enable this feature ? If so how much did that set u back?

Will really appreciate some feedback

Thanks

Have you looked at your user manual?
I did go through the manual did not find anything helpful in regards to this issue. I have seen on an online manual you can enable this feature by pressing the lock button for a few seconds etc etc but our mazda 2 uses the roller switch.

I just made a finding on another forum someone with the same issue complained to the dealership about the lack of auto lock feature and the dealer installed a 3rd party system to lock the doors when the ignition is on. The dealer only did this because he promised a feature that did not exist.

I on the other hand didn't ask about it because I assumed it had it. But will take my try with the dealer tomorrow since the vehicle is less than week old. It's so weird you can control how loud the indicator sound is lol, you can control the lighting on mazda connect, you have a button to fold the mirrors in but it cannot auto lock when driving lol

Mazda do not include an auto lock feature as standard. When we got our CX-5 a few years ago, it was offered as an option at most dealers. One said they'd include it as a no cost option due to SA safety issues. Apparently the function is not a requirement/need in Japan so they don;t come with it installed.

You are correct dealer told me they cannot enable it via the software. Only solution is to install a lock on start. Dealer manager recommended me to the guy that does their 3rd party fitment. This guy wants to charge me R900 ("special price " I think)for the lock on start. I've read of people paying 1.5k to 2k, so maybe it's a good price.

How much would it have cost if you had selected it as an add-on when you bought the car?

Take it and get the quote in writing. Family member was charged R3k all inclusive (part plus labour) for lock on start on their Mazda 2 a few months ago by a Mazda dealer.

Dealer did not mention that this was a add on at the time of purchase. To be honest I did not know that the auto lock feature did not exist until I got the car neither did he mention it to me. I probably would have negotiated the price with him to include that as free add on if I only knew

Not being a douche but why can't you just push the button yourself?

Are you 100% sure this requires hardware? this really strikes me as a software feature. The onboard computer simply sends a lock event to the door lock controller, why would they build different car versions with and without it? Sounds more like a factory-set feature they need to turn on?

I did ask the dealer and apparently it's just a feature that isn't available on the Mazda 2, weird I know. Maybe it can be done via the software but Mazda south africa are limited to what they have access to enable

sounds like a excuse to fleece people, after all those flashy dealerships dont build themselves.
option exists, just the right person needs to switch it on with the right tool,
maybe an independent mechanic who specialize in Mazda can do it?

I'm really enjoying the vechile but

Username checks out.

Any South African worth his or her salt have instinctively trained themselves to push the lock button long before pushing the start button.

Its really annoying how they remove this feature from some markets.

Do you have the model with the infotainment display and menus?
