New Minecraft RpG server UP. MC.GAMERSCRYPT.CO.ZA

Yes we are hosting on a Adsl line, we got great speeds little to no lag and can handle around 20 players. However there is some problem running on the network at the moment thats preventing Login and Authentication and its a bit beyond me.

20 players? I'm assuming that's then not via the internet and rather as a LAN? A 4Mb line (512kbps upload speed) as a server can handle 3 players without lag. 6 players is ok but not awesome.

No mate you need to check your facts, Maybe your line was contended or something, however the real stats are as follows. For every player on your server you have "initial load and idle speed". Which is as follows. For 1 player the chuck thats loaded at spawn will use +/- 0.435Mbit/s for around 5seconds. Then once chunks are loaded the user will idle at 0.030Mbit/s until a new chunk is loaded for them (Moving around the map). Now if you have a 4.000MB/s Line you can spawn aprox 9 players without lagg. (This is also with them constantly moving around the chunks on your server.

Now if you have 1 person in 1 chunk they will idle (including building) @ 0.030Mbit/s . Again if you have 2 people in 1 chunk this is compounded because you need to send the information too two clients. So instead of 0.30Mbit/s It compounds to 0.120Mbit/s . Now this calculation can be extracted and used to work out how many people can run on 4.000Mbit/s Bandwidth.

1 player = 0.030Mbit/s
2 player = 0.120Mbit/s
3 player = 0.360Mbit/s
6 player = 1.260Mbit/s
12 player = 4.320Mbit/s
20 player = 12.600Mb/s

Now thats assuming all your players are in the same chunk at the same time, which will never happen. You would need a 12M line up and down. But in reality your players will never do this and if they do then you need 100 open slots and a server with some serious connection.

I only take in to account 5 chunks being sent at one time (2.175Mbit/s) and around 20 players idling Max 3 per chunk. 1.080Mbit/s. Total Used Down 3.255Mb/s Up 0.540Mb/t.

So a 4Mb connection can do it, and I have 10mb.

Does not matter really cause I'm gonna host it on Mweb Multiplay server soon.
