I have one of the new R1500 modems and nowhere is there a jack to connect a ethernet cable to the thing. Does this mean that I will not be able to use a router with it? Thanks

nope, if there's no port to plug in the network cable then no easy way of using the router... sounds like a USB modem.. do you have the make model, would be easier with that info to make sure.. you could use route tables & sharing of inet connection with various methods depending on your OS, but way easier if the modem has the ethernet port itself (and more secure in my opinion, again OS varying) ..

It is definitely a USB one. The reason I would want to get a router is for security. I have a fully patched Windows XP system with Mcafee Total Internet Protection with the firewall set to stealthed etc. I have tested it at www.grc.com and no ports are open. Do you think that it is safe to leave my PC connected 24/7? Thanks

I know peeps who don't even use antivirus software, so it is totally up to you what you do on the net that matters, and this determines whether you need a router or not ;)

it should connect directly to the usb slot; if you got the ethernet cable from the nowire people!

Hey Big CK

Thanks! I have e-mailed the support guys because I didn't get the Ethernet cable. Hopefully they can send me one...

Hi all

The MyWireless modem ONLY has a proprietary port which takes a special connector. The "Standard" one which ships with the modem is terminated with a USB connector. If you wish to use it with a router, you need to buy the accessory ethernet cable which costs just over R200 from NoWire. Unfortunately they have closed their JHB outlet in Village Walk and as such, the only place to get one from is their PTA office in Fehrsen street. (Call 012 3468823) We have 1 here in JHB which you can PM me if you are interested in it. We will charge more than NoWire though as we keep them in stock ONLY for emergencies for our clients.

Hi

I have sent you a message. It is such a mission trying to get hold of anybody who sells them. Not even the numbers that Sentech sent me work!
