I want to buy a new motherboard for my pc cause the current one doesn't support PCI-Express. Now I want to keep my own CPU. So how would I know if the new mother board would support my current CPU? Do I need to take it with me to the store or is there a number or model I can get and give to them?
 
Well if your still sitting on AGP, more than likely your cpu socket is out-dated and you will find only second hand mobo's.
 
3.2 Intel CPU and DDR 2 RAM I actually got 2.5GB DDR 2 800 RAM. Its just the graphics card cause I have AGP. And that sucks!

You should be able to get a 800mhz motherboard that supports your CPU. If you're not sure what socket it is, log onto the manufacturer's webpage, check the model's details there.

Try Take2, they have a pretty wide range of motherboards.

What model is the AGP Graphics card?
 
Its a Gainward 6600GT. Its keeping me back a bit.

Perhaps an LGA775 P4?

Google "SIW" and use that program to identify the relevant information (motherboard and CPU tab).

I'm not 100% sure, but you should check what chipset the motherboard has. The P35 chipset supports P4 and most newer CPU's. As far as I know, the newer chipsets (eg. P42, P45) do not support P4's. Perhaps somebody can confirm this?

Otherwise, find a mobo and check the manufacturer's website and see which processors are supported :D

G31 should work? Nice and cheap too. :)

Really wow then lga 775 has been around so long, maybe in those days i was only buying AMD because they had better cpu's.
