New MTN 5G packages launched

MTN has launched two new uncapped wireless home Internet products offering customers a taste of its 5G speeds for under R400 per month.

The mobile network operator said that the Shesh@5G Home Internet packages will allow subscribers to enjoy the "superior quality" of MTN's 5G network.

Note that this is a promo and according to the T&C's after 12 months the 5G bundle falls away.
So what remains then is essentially a capped 10 Mbit/sec for 100 GByte @R329 or 20 Mbit/sec for 300 GByte @R399 package.
And the router claw back on the higher end package is R5000 if they determine that you broke/lost the router..

That's bad.

Do you think it can be used mobile, or only at a specific address? Do you think it will have fallback 4G, or only work where there is 5G reception? It wouldn't be a bad option if you could use your own modem and avoid their clawback: An inexpensive 5G phone could even do the job.

It would seem that this promo is for 1 year, so next year there will be no 5G bundle add-on available.

Not sure, but I would imagine month-to-month implies you cancel, and return the router, or take out a new service

It roams over MTN. Customer support is poor. But I’ve hardly had to contact them. When there’s an issue usually it’s an area fault (towers).
