From the latest Yellow Trader (16 - 30 April):

MTN April16-30.JPG

This brings it kinda in line with the Cell C straight up contracts, yes?

What does the anytime200 cost then, R200?

checked few weeks back on the UYO/BYO phone - R119 per month for R200 airtime+25sms's+data (not sure how many MB's)
cost is R2.35 per minute (85min) - per second billing

Well, I don't see how they are equal. CellC costs 99c per minute and MTN is R1.50 on a Anytime 1500 package (their smaller packages are R2.30 per minute - more than double).

Check this.

MTN is more expensive for voice calls and Internet.

No, it depends on the phone you take with the contract. HTC Desire C on the new Anytime 200 is R149 / month, for example.

Stupid for operators to still be giving out airtime instead of minutes.

You mean genius.

Not every one uses all their minutes.

Not everyone uses all their data.

So airtime is the best way. You do what you want with it.

You can switch to the MTN Zone plan with a contract (well I have a top-up contract and I was able to do this). I generally see discounts of 30% going up to 60-70% after 21h00 or on weekends.

Edit: Apparently only Top Up contracts qualify: http://www.mtn.co.za/FindaPlan/Pages/priceplan_new0001.aspx

Jeez, what is that "Out of Bundle" rate? Is it for calls or data....no matter which, that looks expensive

LOL, I like the following line on that page:

Once the inclusive value has been used up, you don’t have to worry about recharging with airtime as you will simply be charged according to the applicable out-of-bundle rate.

More like: "Don't worry, we will clean out your wallet for you." (Oh ja, and bend over)

In bundle rate is R2.35 per min and out of bundle is R2.85 per min. Its outrageous if you ask me.......
