Last week I looked at all my options for a new netbook (got an Aspire One, 3yrs old) and the Gigabyte is the better deal with N550 Atom as Take2 are not mentioning which MSI it is (One has the N550 1.5Ghz and the other the N450 1.66Ghz)

I also prefer the keyboard to the Gigabyte (tried both out a Computer Mania).

Another option is the Samsung and Game have just advertised the N450 model for R2500 and Kalahari has the N550 model for R3K. The Samsung has the best keyboard, nicest look (something my daughter would want) and a matt screen - its main selling feature.

Now I ended up not going for a Netbook and instead bought a 13" Toshiba L635 for R5300, sure twice the price but the screen resolution of the netbooks is a major bug in my butt 1024x600. But if your looking for something small and portable to browse the net and send off emails then I would say its a toss between a netbook or a Blackberry.

Shot for tips, helps a lot.
Yeah need the netbook for portability and long battery life; not looking to spend more than R2700-3000 on it though, wanna lay as much cash into the laptop as possible :)

Well make sure it has 6cell battery and if your using out in the open or on public transport, then get the Samsung with matt screen even if its the cheaper one from Game. Gloss is a bitch in the sun.

One thing I've told everybody in the last three years that I've had a laptop is to remember its not a replacement for a notebook or desktop but rather it compliments them.

+1

I disagree with your comment about a toss-up between netbook and blackberry though. I can type a report on a netbook - I'd hate to do that on a BB.

Well can't see myself going with a desktop again :) I guess if you're a hardcore PC gamer then it makes sense, but for that I have my PS3 (on which I'm typing this) and use my notebook for RTS gaming, which works just fine. As you say though it's useful as an addition rather than replacement; should even be able to hook up the drifta to it :)

Depends on what you using it for. For my purpose, the netbook is the only thing i require, i don't see the need for a laptop of desktop or even a tablet.

If you do gaming, development or image/video processing, the netbook might struggle.
