New Nissan half tonner

So apparently the 1400 Nissan bakkie is on its last legs and will be replaced by a 1600 new one to be launched at some October autoshow.

Having driven some a very few times I can say its been necesary for a long time. I am sure many people love them, but the safety and in my case ability to have my long frame in there was not the greatest. I also always found the visibilty for the driver to be quite restricted. Especially if I compare those past experiences to my new Bantam bakkie.

I hope the new one lives up to it predecessor.

Bye bye 1400, you had a good long run...

Hope the new 1600 is a bit more spacious and comfortable as well - the 1400 is not very comfortable.

I heard it either on 702 or on RSG this morning. Nissan spokeswoman. The last 150 built are special editions and most have been sold (or reserved perhaps) already. Very limited amount of stock left.
 
Err, I don't want to make this personal or anything but why would you buy a bakkie or a 4x4 at this time? Are you using it for work or to commute?

Me? First of all, a modern halftonner (Bantam and Corsa and Strada) is very very carlike in handling. In general they are cheaper than their counterpart hatches.

I use mine for commuting. Well, actually use my Uno for that mostly, lighter on fuel. But when Uno for example was in for a service I used it for commuting or when I go to Roodepoort to visit a friend I rather take the Bantam. It has its other uses like removing garden debris, quickly and easily loading that ladder so I can go climb upon the roof of the Constantia highsite of the PTA Wireless Users Groups building. Whatever needs to be done.

Anyway, why do you ask?

Agreed.
Also light on fuel.
 
Ive actually seen pictures of the new bakkie floating around...

ITs based on a Renault car, looks really terrible...
 
I'm a bit ticked off in a sense. I don't have my license yet, but I am thinking of getting it soon and I also planned on buying one of the 1400 Nissan's, just for me personally. I don't need a car or anything fancy and I don't mind buying second hand as well.

What ticks me off, if the news spreads that they won't be manufacturing them any more, people will start asking ridiculous prices for the little vehicle, then I can't afford it :p

Anyway the reason I asked is, the fuel consumption on bakkies are a bit high for a commuter considering there are plenty of cars out there in that price range that can get very good fuel usage if you can bear driving in a small car that might be slightly associated with "female" persuasion ;) NCap safety rating will probably be better on the car also, since I can't even find Nissan bakkies in that list they aren't in any competition for proper safety ratings (at least it seems that way, I doubt these are sold in the EU).

If it is diesel disregard what I said completely :p

And I'd agree with you on most bakkie, except these halftonners are so carlike. I doubt they are that much higher in fuel consumpsion.
