New Nokia!!!

Just get a newish symbian based Nokia, N70, N71, N80, 9300i etc. Loads of downloadable apps for them. Samsung isnt that bad either i have had 2 and no problems with either of them. Samsungs lack compatabilty as they arent true smartphones. There really arent any pro's to Motorola, i dunno why people buy them(good advertising?).

how about the Nokia E61?

Does anyone have one of these phones? It has WLAN, EDGE, etc etc. I mainly need it todo server maintenance whilst on the road. Any feedback?

E61 has no camera, and though i dont want a phone to use its camera allot, because i have a good digital camera.

There's always times when u wil only have your phone, and u want to capture the moment.

Also i think there allot of better phones with same features.

I would narrow it down further to Nokia or Sony Ericsson.

Motorola = serious software issues and really dumb failsafe measures, for example all messages (and in some cases photos) being deleted when changing a sim card.

Don't know about new sonys but my T300 and T610 both delete messages after change sim, this is one of the ways to protect your privacy.....

My needs are rather simple, really.

I need a phone, with which I could logon to our webhosting support page (which runs Cerberus support center), logon to our Server admin pages (WHM, cPanel, Modernbill), logon to internet banking, via PDF's (which we use for fax to email), and maybe even use Putty to SSH into the servers. a Qwerty keyboard would be awesome, though not the end of the world. I'm happy with GPRS, thought EDGE / 3 G would be better. WLAN, though almost a luxiry is nice too, since I could then use hotspots and Wifi spots al around, so that'll save me some money.

I honestly don't care that much about the camera, probabaly since although it's the only camera I had @ sometimes, my cellphone's camera didn't give me decent enough photos to bother with :)

Long battery life is a must, though I realise it's become a luxiry these days and very few phoned actually have decent batteries.

I don't have much cash though. Vodacom 4U has one on a 24 Weekended month contract @ R162, which is not too bad. I honestly can't afford the business calls just to have a i-Mate (I have heard from quite a few people that they have problems on both the PDA models, so I doubt if I want one of those).

Any other suggestions then? The Nokia 9300 Lite doesn't have WLAN :(

9300! and they not that expensive.

I can get a 9300 lite (the one without the WLAN) on my existing contract. But how is the phone itself? I take if you have one?

Yea i have.

The phone is awesome. Has Edge connectivity, Fax: you'll just have to get Enhanced fax from your SP. Al over the phone is a nice mix of all you'll ever need and is not as complicated as the other PDAs.

I love my 9300.

Get the E61, I'm going to be getting one pretty soon as it looks like an awesome phone.

In all honesty, check if there is software to do all the things you listed and then choose the platform that has the best support for your needs.

The E61 is pretty cool though, I know you can do all your office document work as well as go online pretty easily. By the way, it has 3G as well as EDGE. The camera's in the Imate's are so horrible you're really not missing out on anything.

I vote E61! :D

Does anyone know how the PUSH protocol works? Do I need a special mail server for that? Or could I use a normal Postfix / Qmail server to push the mail to the phone?

Got 9300i about 2wks ago.
I am loving it!

Try fork out the extra cash for it, as it has some nice improvements over the 9300 such as improved battery, WIFI, and it has improved stability( i havent had one freeze)

Can it MultiTusk like the Nokia? That's a must for me.

well it is a nokia :p

And it's also a Symbian smart phone, runs the same OS, just with the S80 GUI, so yeah, it should be able to multi-task. ;)

Since I got my first symbian phone 2 and a half years ago, i've never looked back, and just cant use these stupid 'normal' phones anymore. :)

Please read and understand the question. The question was: "I need to know, cause I must upgrade in the coming week, and I don't know which phone to choose?"

Waiting for the N95 is not helping.
Dude, chill, his post was way before you even posted in this thread. Anyways, nowhere did I even see that you said that you must upgrade in the coming week, maybe you're confused with another thread?

Oopps. i don't know what i was thinking. Must be the post above. i get pissed ooff when all people can say is wait for this wait for that. Agg man. Symbian phones are the way to go. I'll consider the Sony Erics and the Motos the day they have multitasking. Does any1 know if the D900 can multitusk.

well... maaaybe you should wait :p (just joking)

if you always wait for something better, you'll end up waiting your whole life for the perfect phone (or perfect anything for that matter)
