New number plate regulations

n fact, the regulations promulgated on May 4 2007, and which came into effect at the beginning of 2009, state only that from January 1, 2009 the number plates on all new registrations must be mounted "within 20mm of the edges by means of 4mm rivets or 4mm one-way, self-tapping screws", like those used on burglar bars.

Thing is though, if the car you buy doesnt have holes in the body work for you to mount the plates with rivets or self tapping screws, what do you do?

I certainly wouldnt want to make holes on my new car , or for that matter let the cops do it, cause they might just do a crap job - rust could be an issue?

My car isnt worth much, imagine telling an oke with a bently that he need to get some holes drilled into his boot. LOL.

What is the logic behind this? The numberplate must be visable and impossible to remove cause numberplates never change

i think they trying to crack down on people stealign plates, taking off their plates so they can speed and changing their plates often so their car is kinda "cloned".

But still, having to drill holes into the cars bodywork - eish. Maybe the manufacurers need to play a role here.
