I bought the NW-E005F on Monday and almost returned it the same day, but then VoidMP3FM saved the day...

The specs of this Flash Walkman got me very excited:

2GB
FM Tuner
Drive can charge from any USB port, laptop, pc - truly universal
3 minute charge = 3 hours playback, full charge = 28 hours playback time!
'Hold' function

Got home, plugged it into my pc, dragged & dropped a few music folders onto it, press the play button - and nothing happened? WTF?

Quickly whipped out the Sony manual and it stated that the only way to transfer music between a pc & Walkman is to use Sonicstage. Now I don't know if you ever installed Sonicstage on your pc, but I think it's the biggest heap of horse-dung software I ever had to use.

I was desperate and starting to think that I'll have to say goodbye to Windows Media Player 11 and import all my music to Sonicstage, but I just couldn't get myself to do it - Sonicstage is absolute rubbish...

So I started packing the player back into the box, to return it the next morning, when it hit me - have you Googled yet?

Found VoidMP3FM and voila!, now I can drag & drop folders from My Music on my XP pc to my Walkman!! Best of all, I could uninstall Sonicstage completely - you don't need it if you're using VoidMP3FM.

Been up till 03h00 listering to my NW-E005F - I just couldn't switch it off. Yes, it really is that good...

Why not an iPod Nano with WORKING iTunes ... is an FM tuner really that important ???.

Yes, I like to listen to FM - it's always good to have a choice...

I don't like iTunes, much prefer Media Player 11. Also, with VoidMP3FM, it just opens a window where you can drag & drop music folders - you don't need any crappy software.

The Sony Flash Walkman is perfect for gym, half the size of an iPod nano.

I dont know about anyone else but I got a mp3 player so I wouldnt have to listen to the radio ever again.

Besides - I cant wait to see what new iPod model(s) Apple reveals next week.

And Sony? Do they use their own batteries? Wouldnt like one of those in my front pocket

If you could you would have to kiss the family jewels goodbye. If you're really nice you could ask your wife/GF/BF to to it for ya! :D

Well, I don't know if you can call it a 'battery', because the NW-E005F is hardly bigger than a Bic sigarette lighter :-)

With playback time of 28 hours, I'm a happy camper.

I got a Sony Erricson W810i MP3 phone and I only used it once to make sure it works ... I find radio to be rather crap since I am not senile enough yet for KFM or Classic FM or can stand that urban youth orientated music and obnoxious DJ's on Radio 5.

I must say I listen to that Indian radio station from Durbs on occasion as I have a thing for Bollywood music :).

How much are these locally? I found them for around R1250....

I totally agree - FiveFM is not what it used to be, whatever they're trying to do with it, it's not working. The music is crap.

I've switched from FiveFM to Highveld FM during the day and Jacaranda FM for late night - much better!

And the price, what did you pay for yours? ;)

Well even if they do use their own batteries, I'd be more concerned with an iPod with a Sony battery. Sony seems to have added safety cutoffs to their charging system... unlike Apple and Dell :D.

Sony has agreed to help financially with the Dell recall and another by Apple resulting from faults with Sony batteries. However, a spokeswoman for the company denied that the blame for Dell's battery cell problems lay completely with the Japanese manufacturer.

"It is the configuration. We use the same batteries in our Vaios, and have our own safeguards against potential overheating. Other manufacturers which use the same cells haven't come forward with any issues. On rare occasions a short circuit can occur but this is affected by systems configurations found in different laptops," she said.

edit: I have a VAIO...so I'm watching the news for a Sony recall..;)
