New OpenSuse 11.4 looks good

Looks pretty, but read one review which didn`t sound uber positive

Leaving stability issues aside, which are somewhat expected so soon after release date, OpenSUSE 11.4 is not a bad release. The KDE 4.6 implementation is stable and responsive, and all applications on board work well. Unfortunately, issues as critical as not being able to install RPMs, having popular applications not running successfully, or missing hardware support when it actually worked on previous versions, may become show stoppers for standard (non-expert) users.

If you like OpenSUSE, I would suggest waiting a few months before downloading/installing. I think many fixes should already be on their way to hopefully provide its great foundation with some much needed reliability.

I tried opensuse once again, and have to say I have problems once again. I built my pc with linux in mind, and have no issues running any distro except opensuse. Mind you, it's stuff that I could probably fix. But why should I have to when everything else works perfect?

I have tried to use opensuse many times in the past, and have to say this past time may be my last. Even Fedora, with its bleeding edge software is more stable for me. I just don't get it.
 
I do not usually bash any distro--they are designed to be user specific.
But here is the thing with RPM-based--try installing Google Chrome--it is missing a dependency; talk about RPM hell.

Debian based distro's always worked FOR ME.
All that glitters is not always gold.
 
Always wait awhile

Whenever a new version comes out, as said in a preceding post, wait a couple of weeks until everyone catches up with their programs. Google chrome create the packages and add the dependencies to operate with a new version, and sometimes lag the main release date. After a couple of weeks, these things get sorted out.

If you take firefox - opensuse 11.4 was released with a beta release of version 4, and although it has many new features, addons and themes are not yet updated.

Have a little patience or else install the new version and have some fun trying out the new features and help the community to sort out the problems.
 
Been running Opensuse 11.4 for a few days now and I'm really impressed with it. I was a suse user from version 9.3 until 11.3 when I found the distro to be too buggy and moved to kubuntu (which I liked). In opensuse 11.4 everything that worked for me in kubuntu worked as well and sometimes better in opensuse so I've switched all my machines back. Really impressed so far. Haven't had a single dependency issue so far, but then again every app I use is straight from the Yast repositories.

I realize this to be true, but I guess in my old age sometimes I find myself having less patience. There's a ton of distros out there, so it's no big deal if one of them doesn't appeal to me. I'm not trying to bash it, it's just not for me.
 
Thought I'd try to revive this thread what with the new release of Opensuse 12.1. Anybody using it?
I've recently installed Opensuse 11.4 with Eclipse Indigo for some Java dev, and ran into dependancy hell trying to get the internal browser to work. Eclipse keeps bombing out.
 
I have tried 12.1 on Live USB--Gnome 3.2.x; I thought is was slow and painful to even get flash installed (but that is just me who got spoilt rotten with Ubuntu based systems). I also do not like the way Suse renders its fonts--shows its age I think. and Oh yah, dependency hell...I think they have made it less challenging now (compared to previous years).
 
Well I guess that's goodbye Susie, hello Ubuntu. Maybe I need to spend a bit more time with opensuse to get to know it, but right now I need to get some work done.
