Hi Guys,

I just got a new Openweb 30GB local account . Its giving me amazing speed just the 75 :mad:ping problem. Downloaded 1.5GB of international data now for some local fun :D. Have to wait till I reach 2GB of data to see if a can access YouTube local server .

If you keep that connection active, then you won't need to make use of the local YouTube mirrors :D

The download speeds on those local only are excellent, but I've also experienced quite bad latencies on them, which is why I'm using WebAfrica local only accounts for gaming.
It helps to be in the Cape with regards to Web Africa gaming ;)

@HavocXphere:
The WAGE servers are all in Cape Town, so using a Web Africa account in Cape Town area, then it gives you latencies under 15ms :)

I'm using IS Local Only (both from OpenWeb & Axxess) as my primary Internet account, and I haven't had a single time where I lost International access before my ADSL line got reset/upgraded this year.
The other bonus is that you can exceed the cap with about 9% :D and then they don't deduct it from next month's cap like Afrihost does.

15ms...nice. I wonder why here in GP even with a GP based ISP its still 30+.

Cool.

I am so happy right now. Downloaded 2.8GB of international data then my stupid brother plugged our DSL-cable out! Now only local but still not complaining, because I only bought local to download YouTube videos at a cheaper rate which is working! Thanks Pada for all your help this week. P.S. I have a prepaid once-off account can I still exceed my account with 9%?

Hehe Sup3rCow.

You remind me of a few years back when I was sharing 30GB local only accounts with a friend of mine who had a 4Mbps line back then...
We had our ADSL modem and MikroTik routers on an UPS just so that it wouldn't drop, but then our PPPoE connection still dropped. After a while we figured out that the cleaning lady plugged out the ADSL modem, to make space for her vacuum cleaner on the UPS' multi-plug! ROFL

Yes. That OpenWeb 30GB IS Local Only (prepaid) should give you about 32.5GB of data. The past 2 months I've done 32.2 & 32.4GB on the 30GB account.

Wasn't there a case brought against a user, by Telkom, because he used International bandwidth after he was "capped"? srebrne Surely that should apply to this, too, that ISPs can sue. Ain't you worried? :P

Nah I am not worried. I do't think they can sue, because if they don't cap me it's their own problem. I can't help it if I use the internet and my account should be capped, but isn't. IT IS THEIR OWN FAULT.

I would love to see evidence of this.

I know that there was a stage where if Telkom users exceeded their local cap too, they were billed for it, instead of disconnecting their connection. Perhaps this is still what happens.

I seriously doubt that anything like this would happen to the IS users, because the accounts never stated that it actually includes international cap AFAIK - except for the ones bought from Axxess.

anyone remember that ICASA ruling that an ISP may not hardcap local? my question is, do IS? and if so, why when telkom and mweb aren't allowed to?
/mutters about the cost of local traffic never ever getting less
