New PC build - Ryzen 5

Have you looked at what code the 7 segment display on the mobo shows when you boot?
Boot with 1 stick ram?
For the mobo are you powering the 24pin, 8pin and 4pin?
 
It doesn't even power on beyond the LEDs lighting up, so it doesn't beep, start the fans or show any codes. Weirdly, I can flash the BIOS.
 
oh weird, nothing maybe causing a short at the back of the motherboard and the case?
different graphics card you can try?
or another power supply?
 
Took it out of the case and placed it on the box to rule out short circuits. I will get my old card out and see if that makes a difference. Need to finish work stuff first. Even tried without the cooler connected, found some posts that talked about too tight coolers.

Remove the GPU and see what happens. I could be wrong but I think someone else had a similar issue not to long ago.
 
Ok, maybe my inexperience with PC builds and not RTFM is counting. I took the mobo, CPU and RAM back to Rebel Tech, but they tested and it POSTed fine. So took it back home today, plugged in the power as I did previously, still no joy. Then took out the 6 pin port from EATX12V_2 port, a 4 pin connector, and tada, it boots. Plug it back in, and it doesn't work.
Finally RTFM'd, now where I knew what to look for, and it says plug in either the 8pin connector, or the 8 pin and 4 pin.
My problem is that the PSU doesn't have a 4 pin connector, so I'm not sure whether it would be ok to go on without it, or if there is a specific scenario where it is required?
 
Would be nice if you posted the price of each component.
I'm feeling the itch to upgrade.

The ATX 12V connector is probably a 4+4 connector coming from your PSU, only one of those 4 pin connectors must go in there if your board only has a 4 pin socket. There should never be a 6 pin connector near that port, the only 6 pin connectors coming off the PSU is the PCIe power.

^This,

You're plugging the PCIe power connector that is meant for the GPU into the MB!!! The cable for the CPU power is a 4-pin or 8-pin (split 4+4) which you can split.

The 6-pin or 8-pin (split 6+2) is for the graphics card.

If you look at the above you can see that you shorted 12V to Ground hence nothing coming on, count yourself lucky the PSU has short circuit protection else all your new hardware would have gone up in smoke!

CPU and case at EveTech, rest at Rebeltech. Didn't feel like trying to source everything from places like Rectron and Mustek, so went retail.
The RAM is overkill, the Rebeltech guy couldn't get it to run at 3200. Will experiment myself soon, at the moment it is at 2200 or something.

The case looks great, a bit cramped and the sound proofing foam at the back means getting the cover on is a mission if you have any cables that is sharing the back. Also not sure if the PWM fan hub that it has is worth it, so far as I can see it removes your control of the fans for the sake of cable management.

Installed Win 10 tonight, the boot times are quite quick after POST, and the little copying I've done so far is quick also, so the Evo drive is already making an impact.

Will run some benches and take photos tomorrow.

So did you use the 4 or 8 pin port on the MB?

First try it with only 2 ram sticks, your ram timings are 16-18-18-36. Check your bios version and read up on what the latest bios 1107 released 4 days ago offers.

Twice now I have followed the formula:
a) Build up a PC(feeding off the rush from sourcing things all over, tweaking, reading up etc).
b) Play whatever 8-10pm at night, and get up tired, for 2 months or so.
c) Sell the PC since it conflicts with exercise(crossfit/cycling/running, doing races etc) and having children.
d) Wait 6 months for the itch to start again(eyeing BF1 and nier:automata)

BF1 isn't that nice. Think I've played 10 hours in total. Boring game if you are not into WW1 stuff. Also needs a beastly PC to run properly.
 
I enjoyed BF3 and 4 immensely so I would expect BF1 to be more of the same?
Don't have the patience for witcher/skyrim type games.

Sounds like you need a console, not a PC.
 
Been considering a PS4, if only because I'm curious about the god of war series and nier:automata.
