Hi,

I wanto buy myself a new pc for gaming etc... I have seen that price to performance ratio the AMD takes the lead, coz Intel is very expensive in that category. I just need box ie motherboard ( amd or nvidia chipset), ram, cpu, graphics card( ati or nvidia ) and my budget is +-R5000 what you guys suggest i should buy that would be a very good pc for a few years?

The hardware that i have compiled sofar is:
CP-AAPT8650 - AMD socket AM2+ Phenomx3 Tri-core 8650 - R 1385
M2N68-VM - ASUS Mother board - R870

GV-NX96T1GHP - Gigabyte® NVIDIA® GeForce 9600GT, 1GB 256Bit GDDR3 - R2164.86

TX1066QLU-4GK - Transcend® aXeRam™ DDR2-1066 2x 2GB Modules "Gaming Ram" - R967

Total = R4386 ( without PSU and box )

Please feel free to give suggestions in connection with mentioned above etc.

Thanks in advance.

Without a case though.

R2100 is waay overpriced for a 9600GT. You can get a 4850 for that price from prophecy. You can drop the dvd rom from my build for an extra 2gig ram. If you don't need a hard drive use the cash to get a 4850.

Actually just below. But yeah it is good value for money. The 3870 is on par with the 9600GT and is going for R1300 at prophecy.

hmmm... interesting well a question that pops up is the 9600gt has 1GB DDR3 ram and has 256bit while the other cards mentioned has 512MB DDR2 ram or 1GB and 128bit? Isn't 1GB 256bit faster? And why going ati instead of nvidia ? pro's and cons ???

Another question that arise... would those gaming ram 4GB 1066mhz's not be better than the 4GB 800mhz's ? and how much performance percentage wise are we looking at?

Dude why not get your stuff here

http://www.pcint.co.za/components.php and get the 4850 ati card

No gaming ram is not worth the extra 200-300 bucks if you ask me

M2N68-VM ASUS AMD Socket AM2+, Nvidia GeForce 7050, 2000MT/s, 4xDual DDR2 1066, 1xPCI-x16, On Board VGA(HDMI), 1xPCIx1, 2xPCI, 1xATA133, 3xSATA II(Raid 0,1,5,10), 1x eSATA, Gbe Lan, 8ch-Sound, Max 12xUSB, Micro ATX R699.00
AMD Phenom 8650, 3.5MB, 2.3Ghz , L2 Triple Core , 2.7Ghz R 1,120
2GB DDRII-800 (Kingston - KVR800D2N5/2G) R 249
250GB-7200RPM 8MB Cache SATA II R 470
HD 4850 1G GDDR3 PCI-E DUAL DVI-I / TVO LITE R 1,999

Excluding vat of course :), still need box and power supply though.

Cheap motherboards is a no go... not if you intend to have the PC for quite some time. In short, (With the odd exception) you get what you pay for.

Your motherboard is the backbone of your build... make sure you get something really decent, even if you have to pay a little more.

None of the graphics cards mentioned in this thread are ddr2. Even the 4670 is ddr3.

We are saying go ati because they give the best value for money at the moment. You won't notice the difference between 512mb unless your monitor supports 2560*1600 and you're running your games with 8aa and 16af. In which case the 9600gt will be too weak anyway.

The 4850 gives the best bang for buck graphics wise at the moment.

No you won't notice the difference between 800 and 1066.

Fooz dude an 800 rand amd mobo is like buying a 2k intel mobo.

I would say with intel you rather spend 1.5k-2k on a mobo but amd's mobo's are so cheap that a 800 rand one is very good.

AMD Gaming mobo's are worth it. And not that hellish expensive. But it comes down to personal choice. :)

Thanks everyone for their input im a bit new with all this technological advancements ... im wondering what be the best for gaming purposes in a budget of +-R5000 budget? intel or amd... just need motherboard cpu ram and graphics card, psu and box...
If intel would it be better to get nvidia or intel chipset mboard, and if amd an amd chipset or nvidia chipset mboard?

How i see it if you have say a nvidia chipset mboard and you have a nvidia chipset graphics card you get more performance, same with if you take amd chipset mboard and pop in a ati graphics card? And its more compatible with drivers etc and get more performance???

Thanks in advance...

Your on a budget so i would say amd is much better man, not much difference between nvidia and amd in gaming so buy amd rather.

Yip, and that is what is going to make the actual difference between an average gaming machine and a good one, providing you don't use insane resolutions. 22" and below..

Then OC that CPU to the max safe level, and ye, sweetness..
