- Amd socket AM2 athlon64 x2 Dual core 4600+
- Asus M2NE-SLi Mobo
- 2 x PATRIOT DDR2 800 1GB LONG DIMM / SL With Heat Sink
- Gainward Bliss 8800GTS 320MB
- GigabyteT Triton Chassis
- Aerocool ZeroDBA-S620/APFC 620W Gamers PSU

For around 8.5k. Any thoughts, please comment

Why not a :
Intel E6600
Gigabyte DS4 MB

oh, and 2x 320Gb SATA 16mb running Raid 0 (makes a huge difference on speed)
 
affirmative on the gaming.

Negative on the Intel - adds about 2k to the cost methinks.

prolly go for the raid - maybe 3 smaller drives RAID 5
 
get 2 identical drive, 80 gig 120 gig or 160 gig
to raid 0 higher is not good

get the raid drivers onto a floppy
change your bios from ide/sata to raid

press f10 or whatever button it asks just after the first boot screen, set both drives in raid

put your windows disk in load windows as you hit the blue screen press f6
load the drivers and install as you normally do

your 2 drives should be 1 now and super fast

strip size either 64k or 128k

Bios needs to support raid 0.
Raid 5 is for redundency, not speed.

ps: you need a XP sp2 cd to load windows on a raid system. (or bigger than 150gb partition)
 
me big DBA - me know stuff

RAID 5 for speed and redundancy with least no.of drives.

RAID 5: Striped Set (3 disk minimum) with Distributed Parity: Distributed parity requires all but one drive to be present to operate; drive failure requires replacement, but the array is not destroyed by a single drive failure. Upon drive failure, any subsequent reads can be calculated from the distributed parity such that the drive failure is masked from the end user. The array will have data loss in the event of a second drive failure and is vulnerable until the data that was on the failed drive is rebuilt onto a replacement drive.

Cool. Does Vista support RAID 0 as it is?

Sweet. Now just to find out if my board supports RAID 0... prophecy site says nothing about it...

edit: It is this one so I guess if it doesn't say it is supported, it isn't? :(
