Am so out of date with desktop pc for the last 15 years so need some advice. Going to be doing some video editing so want to know which cpu is ideal... AMD/Intel? Since AMD gpu is difficult to get, guess Nvidia is the route to go. Would GTX1070 be sufficient? Planning to use the Adobe suite mostly.

You guys think it's easier to just get from Evetech? I've done quite a few builds in my younger days but just don't have the time to nowadays.

Thanks in advance.

I think a good place to start is:
1.) what is your budget
2.) what software will you use. Adobe Suite. Check
3.) don't forget a good professional monitor with accurate colours

Advice I have received:

Check the Nvidia Quadros or AMD Firepros recommended by Adobe. Pricey. Look at Workstations instead of Gaming PC. Again this can get pricey. Fast ram and a solid state drive is a must in my books. Mac Workstation?

Compare prices and warranty with shops: Evetech, Wootware, Rebeltech, Computersonly......

Sounds like you are just starting learn? A good gaming PC should also work to start with.

I don't do heavy video editing and use Lightworks. So my GTX1070 and Intel 6700K is more than enough for me

Either AMD Ryzen 1700/1700X or AMD Threadripper depending on budget.

I think these days you can get away with using a consumer graphics card for video editing, but normally you will get better support with a professional graphics card. Professional graphics cards do however cost a LOT of money!

Go for a Ryzen 1700 or if you can Threadripper.
Adobe Premiere is more CPU intensive than GPU so a 1070 is more than enough, just watch this video.

Your tech YouTuber (WeDoTech) uses a Ryzen 1800X with a 1060 6GB and 16GBs of memory and that works perfectly for him to bring out videos almost every day..

But if you are going to do 3D modeling and stuff like that then GPU is very very important.

Nice!

No budget really but not going to go silly either as just need to video edit Gopro footages. My laptop just doesn't cut it. So anything under 35k all in will suit me. Any recommendations for the display?

Am not an Apple fan so end of story. And yes, abit overkill for gopro vids but i can spoil myself abit since i got my wife a sweet specialized ebike for 94.7 so she can pull me uphill

Oh okay.

Well, how important is it to you? I mean, just because you can spend R35k, doesn't mean you need to. You could get away with spending a lot less if all you want to do is edit gopro videos and I presume this is a hobby, not a job.

Are you also going to use it to play games? If so, then it might be worth spending a bit extra. But if not, just get the minimum that would allow you to edit videos.

It is a question of budget vs patience - a faster machine would see you waiting less while it would cost more. But, as with all things, there are diminishing returns. Spending twice as much will not necessarily make it twice as fast.

Get an OEM Core i7 for cheap (relatively), 16GB RAM, midrange GPU and an SSD and you should be fine. I edit random game footage every now and then with an i3, 8GB RAM and a 750ti. The performance hasn't been complete crap, but I would seriously recommend getting more cores and pairing them with more RAM.
