New PC Help

Sounds good...one thing I can safely tell you is dont skimp on the PSU. Make sure its a reputable brand, remember that WATTS are not important, AMPS are. So go read up on the site I posted above if that PSU is gonna be what you want.

Cool. I think that is what went on my old machine and also what was causing me problems.

That is why I went for that 600W jobbie that has got all those good reviews so far...:)

That's a lot of money to spend on an "average" AMD system.

the x2's dont compare to the core 2 duos.......they in same league as penitum d

The price posted was for a AMD 64 X2 4600+ AM2 - hardly comparable to a E6400..

So, what's the verdict? From what I have read/heard the AMD that i quoted is comparable to the E6400, like super said...

The only sticking point right now is the CPU and Mobo, which is quite important ;)

I am happy with all the other parts.

It just seems that the AMD option will be R500 cheaper, with very similar performance and onboard graphics good enough to run Vista...

I cannot find an S-Series Intel Mobo for less than 1300 (the ones with the onboard graphics) whereas the AMD ones start at like 800 bucks...

Comments?

*Note: As said before, anyone sick and tired of me asking all these questions, feel free to ignore this thread. Don't flame me though. You don't have to check out what I always have to say/ask/nag about :D

This will be the last money i spend on computers for some time and I want to make sure i make the right choices!:)

COol. I am hardly a gamer at all and certainly wouldn't go the overclocking route ever.

I can't see much speaking for the extra R500 for the Intel setup, if it is true that the AMD's no longer run so loud or so hot..

My old XP2500+ warmed my room like a heater despite having two aeroplane-size fans 'cooling' it.

The Athlon 64s have never ever ran hot (except maybe in the Sahara or without a working fan on the heatsink :p)

Mine is overclocked from from 2GHz to 2.6GHz and runs below 40 degrees under load. And if you enable fan controls on the motherboard and Cool&Quiet in BIOS and Windows, it runs as heat and noise efficient as possible.

Great to hear. As I said I only have the 2500+ to go by for comparison :p

Seems this rig is all set to go, and all that is missing is the 8k or so to buy it :)

There's no link to that review because that review didn't come out and that review would never have been 100%. Maybe 95%
