New PC + PSU query

Thanks Rudimental.
It seems like the way they explained it on many sites was either wrong or ambiguous, like where they mentioned 150W can be pulled from the slot with PCI-E 2.0. So it seems that "slot" was referring to the PEG power slots and not to the motherboard slots.

Here's a nice post that sums it all up:

So you were right about the motherboard being limited to 75W.

Here is bit more on it
Single 12V rail or multiple 12V rails? The eternal question answered

This has me worried a little
Proximon, thats actually a good point to bring up, i spent yesterday reading up on the matter a bit more, and it true, a single rail unit has more potential to cause damage to something in the system in the event of a partial short that doesn't trip the short circuit protection on the unit.

Good grief.... The single vs multiple rail thing is being blown way out of proportion. The reality is that for the limited requirements of PC power supplying, there are hardly any TRUE single or TRUE multiple rail units available. The specifications are always fuzzy around the edges; an electrical engineer would never accept the standards for any other kind of more demanding equipment. Just read the reviews, don't sweat yourself on the numbers.

I have the Antec TP 650w running my i5 2500k, GTX570 and 2 HDD's and have had no problems at all.

We assume you chose carefully, making sure its multi rails would support your graphics card without problems. ;)

Just in case, remember, no one said it wouldn't work. :)

At R26k you have the option of a single Titan or 2x 970s in SLI, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpmuXd52Ce0

The 970 SLI makes more financial sense at the expense of a few FPS, you can get two Galax 970's for R9.8k vs R16k. In all honesty I doubt you could do a Titan +4k display at under R26k, even the 970 SLI's will be hard. Pair it with an i5-4690K & a MB that allows OC and you're good to go.

Thing is you gonna have to decide how many luxuries you prefer vs barebone performance.

EDIT: In retrospect with the new AMD GPU's & Intel CPU's around the corner it might be worthwhile waiting to see what's gonna be on offer. The R/$ situation is probably not going to improve but at R26k I would hate to have buyers remorse :D

I think you would want an i7 with sli.
Not sure, but i think an i5 actually caps the sli prematurely.

I would just get an OEM i7 on carb and everything else new for R26k, skip the OC.
That's a lot of room for stuff like SSD, kick as monitor, case etc.

I mean if you go sli GTX 970 and i7 you already maxxing everything out, OC will be just be for a number.
