Hi all

In need of an upgrade but I am a bit outdated with hardware and compatibility.

Will the below build be fine for gaming? Titles like:

  • Assassin's Creed Odyssey
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider
  • Forza Horizon 4
  • Grand Theft Auto V
The build is attached.

I already have a msi radeon r 9 280 (twin frozer gaming)

Thanks in advance.

Yes they will all work together just fine. Is that the limit on your budget or is there room? Also, is this just for gaming or other tasks as well?

It is the upper end of the budget, I could make squeeze out a few more rands. What are you thinking?

It will be mainly for gaming, streaming video and internet browsing, will also dual boot with Ubuntu, but I know these specs will be fine for Ubuntu.

Just curious. Evetech have some decent specials at the moment. Usually i wouldn't recommend them but they're making an active effort to improve their support.

AMD Ryzen 2700X Upgrade Kit

Intel Core i5-9600K Upgrade Kit

These would both be much better paths to follow as there is overclocking potential, faster processors and faster RAM, albeit 8GB and not 16. However for gaming 8GB wouldn't be too much of an issue and it's a relatively cheap future upgrade.

I would look at an ryzen 2400g instead. Can be had for similar pricing and unlike the intel will allow you to upgrade to the newer generations with just a bios update. With that intel setup you are locked to kaby lake cpu's.

That is however without the m.2 which would push the price over R 10 000, so will have to save a bit harder.

I ignored Evetech because of the support, which I heard was horrendous. I am planning on buying in March so maybe they will have improved enough :p

Thanks for the help.

Cool will keep that in mind.

Have you considered AMD Ryzen 5 2600? (Yes Evetech, have purchased many times and had no issues from them)
Also having looked at the M2 SSD myself, there really is not that much to gain while gaming, stick to a std SSD drive for cheaper.

There is a point to be made for general responsiveness though, but I think a normal SSD should suffice - put the difference toward a larger SSD or better hardware.

I would not buy a 4 core cpu in this day and age.

You should be able to build a ryzen 2600 CPU + B450 MB + 16GB RAM + 860 Evo 256GB SATA system for about the same price as the intel system you listed and it will be a faster system with the ability to overclock it as well yielding even more performance.

Quey... please... I know that you are itching cos of your bonus coming in next month... but rather wait for the next gen AMD.
I am saving for that as well.
