For the love of all that's holy, someone with more grey matter than the two braincelled amoebas I've been dealing with at Vodashop, PLEASE HELP!

The scenario is this: I have a corporate cell phone contract belonging to my employer. I've had it for 7 years and the new "corporate policy" is that minions, like me, only get issued the lowest form of Blackberry handset that exists. I HATE those f***** pieces of s**** and want a proper handset that I can firstly read what it says on the screen and secondly be able to type on with my "boerewors" fingers, without pressing 4 characters at the same time!

Now, I've asked if I could take over the number/contract and they've agreed that I could go on a personal contract, etc. with this number. Problem is, the p00p-all at HR upgraded the contract in like September, causing it to only be eligible for upgrade in 2015....

My question is: Could I open a new contract, which comes with a cell phone number attached. Ask the company to transfer the number of the corporate contract to my contract and change to take over the number given to my personal contract....essentially swap numbers? They don't care what number their line is, they've got hundreds, where on the other hand, I've had my number for seven years and would like to keep it! Contracts carry on, nothing cancelled, just numbers swapped....

SURELY TO GOD THIS IS A POSSIBILITY?! Man landed on the moon with less complication than this seems to be???!!!!!!

It wasnt possible for my on my MTN Topup 200 contract, but strangly enough on any of MTN's other contracts its possible.
Mtn,Voda,Cell C?

As far as I know you can request that your contract number be changed and the old number made a prepaid number but if you pmail Ockie I'm sure he will help you if he can.

Once a number is activated on a Vodacom contract that is the number (MSISDN) for that contract, the only option you have is for a new random number to be generated for the contract (at a cost), this option is available for people who are being stalked etc.

You cannot swap the numbers from the contracts unfortunately as that would be a transfer of ownership of the MSISDN between you and the business.

What you can do, is do a transfer of ownership the personal contract you have created to the company (they will have to be vetted for another line), and the company will have to do a transfer of ownership of the current business contract to your personal capacity (you will have to be vetted for an additional line, you might experience a decline in this regard as you just took out a new contract, but this can be escalated with their vetting department with motivation).

I don't know if this will suit you, don't know what packages the two contracts are, but this is really your only option. Also take into consideration that once approved this process will generally only come into effect from the beginning of the following month.

If you need more info just shout

Cell C swapped numbers for me easily on contracts.... One good thing they do. Cell C rep ftw

My question is, why are you able to port a number, or even transfer it to another network, yet swapping numbers on contracts, is more complicated than launching a space shuttle!? No one loses, contracts remain paid, new contract gained, yet the omniscent "system" does not allow....computer says no.....

So it looks like I'm about to lose my 7year old number, with all the ball ache that goes with changing numbers....FFS!

Reason for this is that 2 different parties own the 2 different numbers.

New question, pertaining to my original thread....

How do I have calls to my old number, automatically diverted to a new/different number, indefinately?

Why not just get the contract transfered to your name?
Yes, I have heard of people transfering contracts midterm.

My company contract has just been upgraded in September, but the company uses our minion contracts to get iPhones and such for the bosses and then give us the cheapest Blackberry handsets available! I HATE BB! So transferring the contract simply means same **** handset for another 21 months....

yeah, it could

BUT you could then take another contract for a phone and swap the sims between phones as you are happy with it..... ;)
