Called telkom and gave them my address, then they said they cant install the phone line because they cant find my address on the system, so they cant place an order for me. Told them to send some one out to come and see and still they said no. They said i must first get a phone number from some 1 at the complex and then call again. wtf

Usually means no Telkom infrastructure was installed when the complex was built (cheap developer).
Check with the body corporate to see what your options are.

Telkom always need a number of a subcriber near by, its just the way their system works. If the complex has no provision at all, explore the Wi-Fi options. Depending where you are you shoud be able to find a provider. The guys in the Wi-Fi forum will help you out.

He means fixed wireless. It is a quite different from mobile wireless.

Where do you live? I had exatly the same problem... ended up having about 3 line applications over a period of about 2 years before someone eventually told me that there wasn't infrstructure to allocate me a line (not sure if they meant at the exchange or no lines running into my complex - I suspect the latter).
Anyway, I've given up the fight with Telkom as it just pisses me off hearing a different story every time you call them. I had iBurst for a while until their service deteriorated to the point I could hardly browse.
I'm with Amobia now, and (touch wood) am very happy so far.
