afternoon all
in the process of having new pool installed
nothing too big just a rectangular 6x3 m pool

so the question is, is there a preferred pool cover that i should be on the look out for?
my brother in law has a 10x4 pool and he used to have one of those pool covers that have poles running through it and can be fixed to the tiles around the pool.
it was very durable and strong but now he has replaced it with one of those micro bubble type of covers
he says it retains heat better and keeps pool warmer longer

he is an engineer so im guessing he could be right

is this the best type to buy as i would need to purchase in the next 10 days and if so is there a preferred retailer as i do see ones in builders/takealot etc

thanks

What level of protection do you need with the pool cover?

Stopping of leave falling in
Stopping of children falling in
Stopping water from evaporating
Stopping heat escaping

The bubbles ones do trap in heat, prevent evaporation and also result in lower usage of chemicals. But doesnt do much for child safety.

I have the bubble cover and a pool net which goes over it (bought the house with the net), got the bubble cover after.

Solar blankets are excellent however if there is a chance of a dog or child falling in the pool they can be deadly.

we have 2 girls 5 and 9 but access to the pool is accessed through door and set of folding doors
im tempted by the solar ones and as expressed they don't seem so safety focused as the rigid ones

no trees or foilage, we had everything removed to make way for pool
older girl can swim the younger one is learning
would ideally want to stop both heat and water evaporation

so would be a cost effective method
bubble plus net?

I have no idea how much the nets go for - i pm'ed you with details of the bubble cover.

My circumstances meant i already had the net - came with the house. The bubble cover i bought afterwards after installing solar heating for the pool.

I dont think the bubble cover would be of much use with anything other then a net cover

Try these guys:
The PowerPlastics Solid Safety Cover - the leading child & pet safety cover | PowerPlastics Pool Covers

I installed a Solid Safety cover (back in 2013) which is quite decent.
Also a solid one here (7x4 pool), although with mine I have to remove the rain water manually, since it rests on top of the water. Have a saltwater chlorinator, pool is always covered these days (have old dogs) , open it when we want to use it or once a week (to get some air) . Pool stays clean, Have to turn the solar off during summer otherwise the top layer of water will really burn you :D

my brother in law had the solid one but moved over to bubble last year
is salt water chlorinator needed in short term?

I've had salt water chlorinators for most of my "pool life", with bubble cover as well as solid. Low on maintenance, kid-friendly, etc. Still had to shock the pool every now and then (nothing like 4 cups of HTH :)) when the kids were playing or having friends over. Salt is fine to keep it clean during normal circumstances.
