Well I have stopped fussing over the new prices... I am simply going to cancel my ADSL line. If more consumers stop using the service we will show Telkom who has the real power. We as consumers in SA are far too passive. Vote with your feet and simply walk away.

PS: I realise a lot of subscriptions are business based and is like shooting yourself in the foot, but if possible then do it!

cancelling is a bad idea. if you cancel your adsl, then you have no right to complain about it. but as a adsl user, you can complain and fight for you gain from your service provider.

me thinks.. :D

On the other hand by subscribing you have vindicated Telkoms pricing structure. If it was too expensive you wouldnt have signed up in the first place. So shut up and stop complaining about the price - its not like it was a surprise to you (although with per gig billing it will be!).

If you were running a business suppling widgets and you fitting as much widgets as you could and had a 5 week waiting list would you drop your price? No! If anything its too cheap already - raising the prices would reduce the waiting times and improve 'service levels' and could then be dropped once all the suckers have signed up on the higher level. Make sure that everyone has an opportunity to pay the highest price that they want to.

so after you cancel you go back to the dark ages without internet or you go to dial up, paying 5 times more ... ?

Thats the idea, go back to the dark ages... After all the internet is a luxury for the elite. The masses have no need for it.

And if was so expensive then why did you sign up in the first place? After all, Telkom says that you only need 1 or 2 gig a month - which is not expensive on dial up.

From what I have heard... local will NOT be capped on the new 3GB options from 1 November 2005. I have been liaising with Herman Potgieter from Telkom and he has been helpul and friendly. If you have any questions you can email him at [email protected]

It seems that from 1 November, you will buy your 3GB package as per usual and thereafter purchase extra GB's according to what you want to use for international connectivity.

I know this isnt as good as the current 30GB options. Im just posting to add some useful info.

Syzygy

Telkom doing a price rise like this is definitely something we as users should complain about! It's sodding ridiculous.

Imagine there was only 1 real estate agent in South Africa. That agent had total control over the prices of houses and told you that that dear little R300,000 house you were looking at would now cost you R2 700,000... Not because the agent needs to get costs back but simply because he/she feels that people are living in too much luxury (what with the running water and all).

Canceling is the only weapon you have unfortunately - SA is far too apathetic when it comes to being screwed over and quite frankly that disturbs me as much as what telkom is doing.

Why? Because for everyone who keeps their connection Telkom hears one vote approving of what they've done.

What am I going to do? First off I'm canceling my account as soon as this pricing structure is announced by Telkom. I'll receive email with a blackberry during the day and I'll go back to dial up and infinicall in the evening. This way I'll probably save about eighteen thousand rand a year.

I agree with bwana, all of you that sign up for ADSL are saying to telkom that it is fine to raise prices because you will use the service anyway :P ....... Dont use the service and then complain about it. Thats like going to a restaurant, eating the food and complaining that its too expensive... Just dont go to the restaurant...

Rather take dark ages than support a company like Telkom... their monopoly is a licence to print money - take a stand man. As the saying goes "Put up or shut up"

Well id cancel in a heartbeat if I only played games on my adsl and downloaded pron.. Sadly I need it for work, the current pricehike would mean less profit but still profit/money which otherwise would have been R0.

So ye, sad but true, i and many others rely on it, even when rediculously expensive ;(

I managed to move large files before adsl and I'm sure I'll manage again. If you want to give Telkom license to poke you in the brown-eye whenever they want then thats your choice.

It was nice having you adsl but dont let the door hit you on the arse on your way out.

Larges files not the issue, permanent connectivity is. Any other solution would cost me thousands more atm ;( just to be on 24/7.

Infinitecall wont help me be online 24/7 "cost-effectively" as retarded as that sounds, adsl is still cheaper, but way overpriced for what it should be.

They are not removing infinitcall, i spoke to technician when installing my phone line 2 weeks ago, he said they are just not advertising it anymore, but if u ask for it you will get it. (thats what i did).

You all do realise that most of your dialup money will still be going into telkom's pocket?

Of course I do - I also realize that any method of accessing the internet adds to telkoms riches.

If I have to sacrifice some speed and convenience then so be it - just as long as I'm not grabbing my ankles, chanting thank you sir may I have another one while telkom does what it wants. Unchecked and effectively unopposed.

so...

Does anybody know who or when the SNO is coming to our shores...

I havent heard much about this...
