I need advice on a new printer. The main points of it must be less than R1000 it must print in black only(if it is a printer that uses both black and color cartridges i can only remove the colored one?) It must print fast and the ink or toner must be as cheap as possible. It must be able to print A4 pages. Really need help on this thanks guys.

Printers costing less than your budget are very expensive to run. You want a laser printer for cheap to run and fast.

The rule of the thumb I use is too look at the price of the consumables as these are ongoing costs.

Based on that I, then select the printer which is hopefully a once off cost

as said above, look at the prices of the toner or ink, then decide. Often cheap printers cost more to run.

samsung laser printers can cost as little as 799(small capacity starter toner included, but the toners coat approx 1000.

an equavalent hp laser printer will cost 1000 - 1200, but the toners will cost under 800.

So your choice, buy cheap now, spend more long term
buy a lil bit more expensive now and save in the long term...

I bought a Xerox 3010 (laser) for R599 and I use compatible cartridges which cost me approx R300 each and print about 2000 pages...you can do the maths. If you want to use original cartridges you will pay a lot though! Compatibles have given me no problems though and I print lots of pages every day.

Thanks guys for all the replies. I looked at the Xerox 3010 and looks like that could be the one. @Fingerprintz.mgr where do you buy the cartridges?

Also have a look at the Brother range the cardriges are quite cheap and are refillable.

This one is old tech but cheap:

the drum is inside the printer. replacing the drum costs more than a new printer, most just replace it. Though not done under strict record keeping.... The clients that had brother laser printers had drum issues after about 3 months of the warranty ending...

Replied via PM, but for everyone else, I purchase from Bid or Buy - search for "Phaser 3010 toner".

Makro sells the Brother toners for cheap. Way cheaper than the Samsung and HP.
