PS3center.com is reporting that the error seems to be a major coincidence.

They then go on to report however, that there does seem to be a common error at the heart of the debacle.

The issues being experienced do seem to be linked to the firmware download; however, it seems that the problems are only occurring on systems that did not complete the download correctly. This has lead to a number of users receiving corrupted downloads, leading to a host of hardware malfunctions.

So for anyone who completed the download properly without any hitches, there is no need to worry. As a warning to those yet to perform the update, it is highly advisable that when doing so you allow the update to run its course without interruption. If the download appears stuck, be patient as disrupting the process can cause the problems faced by many so far.

There is the option to download the update from Sony’s website using your PC, then once the download is 100% complete, it is safe to transfer it to your console. Get the download here.

Seems like 20million prospective PS3 failures remains out there. :rolleyes:

If it really exists to a PS3 console that is close to the warranty end period. That way it can be returned "legally" for an extended warranty of 90 days.

Anyway, I would not do it. If a console lasted for two years there is a good chance that it it would "maybe" survive. I doubt it though given the info on forums I read. It is a ticking time bomb.

PS3 is not the issue. The bricking problems are inherent to ALL Sony products in general, it's not a question of only the update, its a question of when! As far as I can see nothing is confirmed that the Update is in fact the actual cause in these particular cases. Maybe bricking is just becoming more frequent as expected and by coincidence it happened when these guys upgraded.

We are not allowed to refer or discuss RROD but you have your fun with a few PS3 failures like the lens issue which by comparison are not even a fraction of a percentage of the RROD issue. The fact of the matter is as soon as you see reference to RROD and now even KZ2 you all go in shock and fight for dear life. Why I really cannot understand.

They should change the rules of the MyBB membership to only include Xbox owners as some Xbots just hate anything PS3 even the simplest posts about the PS3 are trolled by Timgaul and then the pack arrives to support his idiocracy.

Don't worry, its cool, we know you're not being rude. Its just IAP, his insistent ranting is derailing most threads in this section. Its just frustrating when there is genuine debate amongst PS3/360 owners being stifled.
