New PSP launched

Its slimmer and has 8GB built in, will sell, but it means theres a PSP2 coming out soon!:)

The specs are pretty much the same IIRC - sort of like the PSone being a downsized version of the original Playstation.

Thing is the original PSP's would still be worth far more because of their older firmwares, and therefore their ability to be downgraded to run Homebrew apps.

It is supposed to have a better screen and improved battery life, as well as being slimmer. Similar improvements to those made on the DS Lite.

Local price is insane though. R2000 'special' price for the bare package when the Daxter bundle in the US costs $200.

Not worth it IMO.

The weight reduction was achieved by removing the internal metal frame that prevents the body of the console from shape distortion, by changing the UMD mechanism and various other compromises to quality, e.g. shaving down the glass covering the LCD. All of which resulted in a slightly thinner/lighter console that will likely not be as robust.

Feature wise it brings nothing new to the table (no internal 8gb storage, etc) except TV OUT and an extra 32mb of RAM (which they can't rely on without shafting the owners of the old PSP)

PSP slim and lite

The new psp slim and lite is a waste of time. They are just trying out new marketing strategies and seeing if it will fly. By redesigning something that's already a hot hit, why do something like this. Makes no sense.

It's like doing away with the old bulky PS2 and redoing it with the slimline. Bad idea from the start. Now I'm struggling to find a fat PS2, 'cause I want to build in a HDD. With my slimline, I can't do that.

So with the "few" extra features that these new PSP's offer, why waste the money.

Unfortunately they've shrunk the battery and left the same screen, so the only major improvement is the reduced size and weight. Not really a reason to buy it again.

You can't compare this to the PSTwo. Reduced size is also welcome. I no reason for current owners to complain.

it does "NOT" have 8GB built in!

I dont know where people picked that ****e up.
Its slimmer, lighter, has tv out connections, moved a few things around, no infra red and it has 64 megs flash memory instead of the 32 megs the fat psp has.

thats it.
