Got a new job with a car allowance so I decided to get a small car to use to run around during the week as my primary vehicle is already paid off. I've decided to go for the new Cleo IV 1.0T Dynamique as I've hired one before and enjoyed it, especially the interior with the touchscreen etc.

So I decided to get a quote for a maintenance plan.:wtf: R33701 or installments of R936.14 to convert a 3 year 45000km service plan to a 5 year 90000km maintenance plan. How can this be? I had a 2009 Honda Civic 1.8i and the maintenance plan on that was +-R16000.

Is this the normal price these days or what?

That doesn't sound right. Something is fishy here. Have you bought the car yet?

That's not the right price for a maintenance plan at all. Find out who manages the maintenance plan and underwrites it and speak to them directly...

Far too expensive. Even BMW who are known for high prices, wanted R 18000 to extend a 3 year to 6 year plan. Maybe Renault components are very expensive, I know Fiat parts are over-priced

Don't buy a Renault. They're overpriced cars with expensive services and parts.
Everything that breaks is always not in the service plan. Sure, they're nice cars, but they're really not worth owning.

Maintenance only?
Extended warranty?

Still sounds high though.
Let's assume 4 services in 45000kms... That's R8400 per service!!! THAT'S INSANE!

Work it out like that though... count how many services in the allowable period and see how much each service is gonna cost.
Remember... these products are designed to make the dealership more money, since the parts are subsidized and the dealers claim from the manufacturer on each part.

It's not by any means cheaper if you take the service plan. The difference is, if you DON'T take the plan, the dealers will insist on changing parts even if you don't need to. Brake pads, discs, CV joints, hoses, water pumps, etc etc... Just to squeeze you for more money. They're getting worse and worse... across all brands and motor groups.

Madness. I suppose it is a European car after all and the Rand has taken a huge pounding. My friend waited 6 weeks for a new door for his Peaugot 206.

I bought a 5 year / 90 000km maintenance plan for Hyundai Accent two months ago and it was R9 000.

Its a company called Liquid Capital that the lady at the dealership said handles the service plan that is already in place so they must have a deal with Renault SA. The car comes with a 5 year 150000km warranty and a 3 year 45000km service plan so I figured converting the service plan to a maintenance plan would cover all my bases. That is until I got that quote. I'm definitely not getting that car anymore.

The weirdest part is that on the Renault site, its states that a 3 year 45000km maintenance plan on the Clio I want to get is R 5 918.85 so how does it cost an additional +-R27000 for another 2 years and 45000km. Makes absolutely no sense.

Hey CyCliC,

I just spoke to someone very senior in Liquid Capital and the dealership is ripping you off. They are loading that deal. Phone Liquid Capital tomorrow and speak to Ikram. He will sort you out directly.

I know that business intimately...

Leave the plan and get another car with that money, to keep as a backup for when the Clio "takes a day off". :erm:

The dealership gave me Liquid Capitals direct line and I called them directly. The quote is directly from Liquid Capital. This all sounds so dodgy.

As DJ... has already alluded to there's something decidedly fishy going on here. Converting the standard 45,000km service plan to a maintenance plan at R6k isn't unreasonable, so let's be generous and say full maintenance for an additional 45,000km service could cost double that again. So, a rough R18k for full maintenance up to 90,000km. That's still R10k short on your quote.

Would you mind specifying the details of your quote? Trade-in? Settlement amounts? Discounts, etc.?

That is not a proper Liquid Capital price. Call and ask to speak to Ikram, do not mention the existing deal, simply ask for a new quote. My contact asked if you have a cam-belt covered in that price?

BTW, if the price quoted by Ikram is lower, which I'm sure it will be, please send me the details of the people in Liquid Capital who were involved in the original quote. There might very well be more to this, and I can have it properly investigated for you.

If you're happy to, PM me the details now...

I was expecting 10-15k to be honest. I thought that was reasonable for a car that small and cheap. I told the chick I wanted a full maintenance plan on a new Cleo IV 1.0T and she found the car on her system, read out the details, told me it already had a service plan and that she would quote a conversion and she quoted. We didn't go into any other details.

I'll call Ikram tomorrow and update you guys. If there is foul play at hand, then that chick will be in trouble as she told me that they record all phone calls and that I could request the recording whenever I want.

Drop me the details in any case. With my reference you might be able to bypass sales and organise a much better price...

There's a massive difference between extended service plan and extended maintenance plan.

That being said, 4years/105 000 Full Maintenance on a Forester is R 10 630 and 5 years /120 000 is R 22 810. Full Maintenance covers everything and all you pay for in that period is your own fuel and tyres if you need them - everything else is covered.

30k odd for 90 000 on a relatively small car is either incorrect or a massive ripoff.

Just keep in mind what that plan covers and what possible major services will be included.

I'm paying R10K for a 5yr (I think it might be 150 0000km) for my i10. A major service for our ATOS at 90K km was R3K so one has to keep it all relative

Can you add this extension to a second hand Forester which is just about to go out of the standard plan, or can you only do this when buying new?
