New Renault Twingo

Here’s your first look at the new Renault Twingo E-Tech's interior

Cutesy reborn city car will get a 10in infotainment screen, pan roof and *lots* of storage pockets

2024 was a good year for Renault and it’s starting 2025 off strong, via the medium of interior images of its forthcoming Twingo E-Tech. Much like the lovable R5 - which has just won the Car of the Year award - it too features a healthy mix of fresh, modern touches peppered with subtle nods to the original.

It's still a prototype at this stage, but it shows a tidy and functional dash led by a 7in digital driver’s display and 10in multimedia hub. Below that sit a few climate control switches, the push start button and a hazard warning toggle (surrounded by a translucent bubble like in the original).

We can’t spot any Baguette Holders, but maybe a Croissant Box can be optioned in later on? There are spaces under the dashboard and front seats, plus a flat area beneath the cylinder that runs the length of the cabin and acts as a pocket for smaller, everyday essentials. Like croissants, obviously. Those rear seats also fold straight down to increase cargo space.

The rear headrests feature a magnetic strip for rear passengers to attach their phones, helping little people get their Ben and Holly fix that much easier. The upholstery gains a series of colourful patterns that match the exterior finish, as do the front door panels and passenger section of the dash - further nods toward the original.

Renault wants to bring the new Twingo to the UK

Brand chief is optimistic the Renault 5 can blaze a trail for the new Twingo to follow

Renault is shaping up for a big year. The Top Gear Award-winning 5 EV has touched down, and the new Twingo, er, hasn't. Yet. But it might still make it to the UK.

“Depending on the attraction of R5, I will fight to get it,” says Fabrice Cambolive, Renault brand chief. “The Twingo is an interesting exercise for many reasons.”

Cambolive reckons the frog-eyed supermini has the potential to appeal in big numbers to legacy customers of the old ICE Twingo and Zoe, who'll be desperate to upgrade. And that its price and size all work in its favour. It's expected to have a sub-£25,000 starting price point, much like the 5.

Speaking of, Cambolive is cautiously optimistic about the electric supermini's capacity to turn the tables here. In France, it's been on sale since October and was the country's best-selling EV in both November and December. They're selling like hot cakes! Or warmed-up pains au chocolat.

Confirmed! The bargain new Renault Twingo will be sold in the UK

Renault boss Fabrice Cambolive has confirmed the £17k city car will be sold on our shores

Big news about a very small car: the reborn Renault Twingo will be sold in the UK after all, and it’s still on track to cost less than £17,000.

“I'm pleased to confirm Renault Twingo will launch in the UK,” said boss of the Renault brand Fabrice Cambolive earlier today.

“I put all my attention on the challenge to launch Twingo in right-hand drive, because I believe a car under 20,000 euro equivalent has huge potential in the UK as well as Europe, both for opening up the segment because of its design, technology and dynamics as with R5 and R4, but also because it brings a new level of versatility for the class that I believe customers will respond to.

“Accessibility to EVs is critical for the future, and Twingo offers something new for Renault, and for all car buyers.”

New £17k Renault Twingo to be revealed on 6 November

New electric city car will go toe to toe with the Volkswagen ID 1

The fourth-generation Renault Twingo E-Tech will be revealed on 6 November – and UK buyers will be able to order models from mid-October.

The new, sub-£17,000 entry point to Renault’s expanding EV line-up will hit the roads in 2026 as a direct rival to the upcoming Volkswagen ID 1. It will be positioned beneath the Renault 5 and Renault 4 in the brand's growing line-up of small EVs and has been developed in less than two years.

The French firm has confirmed that a launch event for the Twingo will be held early next month and issued four new official preview images. These confirm that the styling will remain close to the original concept car.

As with the 5 and 4, Renault will offer a Twingo R-Pass, which is described as a 'skip-the-line' early reservation programme. It will be launched in the UK on 15 October and will give those who sign up early access to orders when the Twingo goes on sale. R-Pass members will be given priority in both production and delivery of the vehicle, along with other unspecified 'exclusive benefits'.

Spied testing recently by Autocar spy photographers, the new city car is being launched seven years after its petrol predecessor was withdrawn from sale in the UK due to declining demand (just 877 UK sales in 2018).

A key selling point for the Twingo will be its sub-£17,000 starting price, which is part of a brief to create a “fit-for-purpose urban vehicle with no compromise”.

A special pass lets you skip the line for the new electric Renault Twingo

In the ever-competitive world of electric cars, getting a new model before your neighbor is becoming a modern status symbol. Renault seems to understand this perfectly. The French automaker is bringing back its iconic Twingo city car as an all-electric model, and weeks before the Renault Twingo E-Tech electric even has its official debut on November 6, the company is launching the "Twingo R Pass," a program that essentially works as a skip-the-line ticket for early adopters.

The Twingo R Pass gives members priority access to place their orders for the new Twingo E-Tech electric. This means they will be at the front of the line when production starts, ensuring they are among the first to receive their cars when they go on sale in 2026.

Renault is staggering the launch of the Pass across Europe, starting in Italy on October 8 and expanding to countries like Germany, Spain, the UK, and France throughout the month in a clever marketing campaign designed to build excitement for an EV that promises to be both stylish and affordable.

The car at the center of all of this is a modern interpretation of a European classic. The original 1993 Twingo was famous for its quirky, one-box design and surprisingly spacious interior. Renault is leaning heavily into that nostalgia for this new electric version.

Based on teaser images, the Twingo E-Tech electric will feature the same friendly, "smiling" face, with round full-LED headlights and a cheerful grille. The overall shape promises a small exterior footprint perfect for city driving, while keeping the "small on the outside, big on the inside" philosophy of its predecessor. Details like half-moon taillights and a rounded rear window are clear nods to the car that won hearts decades ago.

New Renault Twingo leaked: spy photos show cute styling

Fresh snaps believed to depict the official Renault Twingo have spilled onto social media ahead of the official debut of this charming electric city car on November 6.

The photos confirm what we've already seen from prototypes and the glimpses we had at Renault’s teaser shots: the new Twingo mirrors the lovable concept shown two years ago almost perfectly. And we're loving it for it.

Paying homage to the classic frog-eyed Twingo model of the 1990s, the latest Twingo embraces a modern reimagining. Its signature LED headlights give the face a cartoonish grin, complemented by a small grille that resembles a mouth and the sensor patch makes it look like the car is sticking its tongue out. The bumper has vertically mounted impact overriders, finishing off the look of a blushy face.
