New rig

You sure that mobo isn't crossfire compatible? Seems to be.
Nope. It (P7P55D-E LX) has SATA3+ USB3 and 1x PCI-E 16x slot. Have a look here: http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=DfyAB26HiDpiiu8f&templete=2

I have a Coolermaster Elite 310
You might want to get a fan for front air intake on that case. I have one at my office, and it has only 1x 120mm fan at the back for air extraction, so its really not a very good case in terms of airflow.

Yeah I realized that before, so I have 3 120mm fans right now for the case :)

Hehe OK. In the end it is actually more worth it to spend more on a better case from the start, like the Elite 430, which costs about R100 more than the Elite 310.

I'm running an i7 860 + HD 5670 from an CM RC 310 case, and it's incredibly quiet - even my laptop makes more of a noise :)
I have to admit that my CPU does get quite hot (80'C) with the stock cooler.

Does your front panel audio sockets also so fit so tight to the 3.5mm audio jacks? That is actually the main thing that irritates me with my office PC.

There's always the P7P55D-E PRO.

Is it better to get a smaller case. Some of these towers are simply HUGE.

Yeah, I realized a more expensive case would be better recently, but I bought that case about a year ago for the PC and never really got round to it. My friend has one and it seems to work fine so it should be okay. Haven't tried the front panel sockets on mine but I seem to recall the ones on my friends case being very tight.

Sorry but why did you choose the AMD 6850 over the nvidia 460 graphics card? Don't they have similar performance while the 460 is cheaper? I'm looking to purchase pretty much the same system you originally mentioned (won't crossfire in the next 5 years and prefer the i5 productivity specs) ... thought i would wait until sandy bridge came out since I'm going on leave shortly and hopefully the i5 and motherboard price will have come down a bit.
