Hi guys, i'm on the market for a new modem router.
I have a 10mb ADSL line, and am currently using a Belkin router which disconnects me literally every hour all day.
It also battles to stream video and often cuts out.

I need something reliable that will last a while that can stream video wirelessly.
I download a fair amount, need a wireless network, and need a stable connection.

Any recommendations or people who sell such a unit?

You should really look at the ASUS Routers if you tend to use the internet that much.

ASUS routers are like pitbulls when it comes to staying online. And I also like TP-link

I would first look at your line quality before purchasing a new router. Could possibly be that your speed is maybe too high for your line to handle. As suggested earlier, post your ADSL line stats.

While I'm sure ASUS routers are brilliant, I have a D-link and I haven't had any dropping issues. It's far from the best router, but you certainly don't need to buy an ASUS if you use the internet a lot.

My next brand will be TP-link, heard good things about them.

Yeah look at a TP-link router with at least 300Mbps wireless N, you will have to ask for recommended models from another fourmite.

How do check line quality? I have the same problem as the OP. Disconnections throughout the day. My ISP has checked and they say the drops are happening from my router.

I have been using a TP-Link (TL-WR1043ND) router for quite a while now. It is pretty stable, but with stock firmware, and even some other firmware's I've loaded since, it would become unresponsive after about 7 days of usage, not even responding to ping.
I have currently installed DD-WRT on it, and it's much more stable than TP-Link's firmware. It can run longer than a week with no problems, and there are a few devices using it (~20, including pc's, laptops, tablets, phones)

However it's still not perfect, and it's wireless is not as fast as I would like, so I have been considering the new Asus with Wireless AC, as it also accepts open source firmware, and seems to be able to handle much greater load.

What I would not recommend is a Netgear. We tried using that in same circumstances, and it was a nightmare. Now it is only used as a DSL modem, the TP-Link does the rest.

Which Asus is that?

Takealot's pricing is very close to cost and then you get free delivery.

I contacted Takealot and their suppliers don't have the B1 model. Much prefer the look of the B1.

Esquire does have the B1 model. You can sign up with them as a MyBB member or you can contact them for your nearest dealer.
